[edited]:

Is it possible and if it is will performance be increased if i remove the airbox and use K & N air filters instead?

I see i can replace the filter element but as that as far as it goes?

yes its possible (as long as you leave the sensors connected. As for performancce increase I don't know but would be happy to dyno it FOC just to see what difference it does make. Even then it would need testing on the road to take into account air turbulence at speed (we have a fan but it doesn't really mimic actual road turbulence.)

In theory it shoould make more top end HP if the area of the airbox intakes is less than the total are of all three throttle bodies. However, I'd be concerned with the turbulence like Xman mentioned. Also, without the airbox you know have NO velocity stack at all, and the stock ones are marginal. Factory Tuning Components makes a set; anyone tried them?

You will also need to re-position Thermostat and filler cap housing as it's currently fixed to the top of the air box.
