Hi guys,

I'm a newbie here although I have hunting around this website for a little while now without any question to ask. I know that there are numerous threads about this subject but I just want to clarify the following:

- to remove the needle roller bearing in the drag/ drop links do they need to be pressed out( with a actual hydraulic press ) or can removed using a drift? When fitting back in what is the best way without damaging the bearing?

I couldn't believe the condition of these bearings as I have owned the bike for about 12 months and decided on the weekend to clean and regrease. The bearing has corroded that badly that the roller are basically mush!!! Luckily enough all bearing sleeves came out OK but need replacing as well. Priced up bearings, seals and sleeves to a grand total of $580.0( discounted ). I will be investigating to see whether there are aftermarket bearings avail around the Sydney area or if someone knows of a company I can use it would be appreciated.

Apart from that love the bike. I had Jap bikes all my life but none has the character of the Daytona!!! Don't forget the red ones go faster......

[edited]:

I used HEAT and a suitable socket to get them out!!

My mate put them back in?? - as he has a couple of "Race Kawasaki's" that use the same stupid system!

I think he made a suitable drift + HEAT to expand the casting?

Mine cost £185 from Triumph!!

Search the threads, you will find (Somewhere) the prices/numbers from bearing suppliers - though, from memory the seals are cheaper from Triumph?

Hi people,

I have sourced the bearings and seals from CBC Australia( numerous outlets around NSW and QLD ) and work out to be $175.00 for 6 bearings and 10 seals opposed to $400.00 from Triumph......

i would recommend using a press as adding heat to a cast material is asking for trouble and should ony be used as alast resort. if you are mechanically minded you could mak a bush extractor quite simply with tube and threaded bar and som heavy duty washers

I removed all mine with some 10mm threaded bar and a good selection of sockets, and refited with vice, threaded bar + sockets. Maybe I was lucky and didn't have any real tight bas***ds.

Drop-Link bearing removal

You can drift them out with a sturdy bar as stated.

I'd only use a press (Vice) to put them back in though, and ALWAYS press them back in with the sleeve supporting the inside of the roller. Failure to do this can result in the roller cage twisting and it will then be useless.

You need to make sure they are fully home, or the seals will not fit. A socket is the best way to do this I found.

Oh Yes, Grease the living shit out of them with high load grease before refitting to the bike

Spent Saturday refitting the bearings and seals. Hardest part is getting the seals back in without detroying them. Ended up chamfering the edge of the seal and using a 18mm socket and vice to press then carefully. I greased the crap all the bearings....I don't want to go through that process again time soon. Thanks for everyone for there help. Some great helpful hints!!!!!
Cheers
