I have done it on both my Tiger 955s.
ST1050 should be the same.

My 955 was live all the time, but the 1050 is only live with the ignition on. So your charger won't be connected to the battery when the ignition is off.
I changed the wiring so that it goes direct to the +ve of the battery, through a 10A fuse. So long as its only a trickle charger, that should be fine.

Have been connecting my Optimate for the last 12 months, via the aux socket.
It registers 'charging' and 'fully charged' so I reckon it must be doing something.

Any one got the part number for the adaptor that fits into the auxillary point, got one a long while ago and forgot about it tried in the 1050 bugger wont fit even with red cover off

Don't buy the Triumph or BMW one, unless you want to get ripped off!!
Go to a yachting place/chandlers if possible as they do a cheaper Hella version. EG

Accumate / Optimate make the male plug, and its bit of attached cable plugs straight into their charger cable
