So, after my Doc says my back is fooked, http://www.t595.net/messa.....nder/66065.aspx anyone recommend a good back protector........bear in mind, I live in a country where it gets FOOKIN hot at times, so will sacrifice a little safety for comfort and lightweight.......UK or US sale is not a problem.....................oh, and I'm nearly a midget at 5' foot 8" ,in old money!!!!

Know do some good lightweight stuff, but what ever you choose you will end up with a sweaty back underneath it

I use a Knox Contour which has a fabric covering which seems to help keep it cool. Comfort factor is really quite exceptional. The Knox sizes seem rather unusual. Unless, you have a long torso, at 5' 8", you might find the Small size is the best fit. Try one in at a supplier before you buy. Once I'm riding I completely forgot I've got it on. Paul

Ta m8, I will look for Ride over here, we do get it..albeit a bit late, but I don't think I am going anywhere ,just yet!!!!!! I looked at Knox and Forcefield, and rather fancy the Forcefield, seems it gets good reviews and may be "less sweaty" than the others..........

Forcefield armour is very nice kit and always gets good write ups, often coming out tops in tests. I am encouraging my racing children to upgrade to their stuff as it becomes necessary

X man and all you other racers, not wanting to tempt fate, but this might be worth a gander at.....seems KTM factory riders swear by it, though it can be used for track racing too......... http://www.leatt-brace.com/

Frank, like everything in this life hindsight is a great thing and at least the back protector i was wearing probably saved me from a wheelchair (although I still fractured two vertebrae) I am able to give the benefits of my experience to others. the neck brace would be very difficult to ride with on a track bike I would think.... Photo Album Image that fence was upright before my body went through it...

Point taken......... I wasn't trying to say it would be a breeze. It actually tells you on the site, that if you are a Track rider then you WILL have to adjust your riding style.... Hopefully your neck is in much better shape than mine!! I am now coming from the angle, that as I have SEEN the evidence that no longer do I have the neck stability I thought I did, I am planning a few "changes" to my protective clothing requirements.........not saying I will start to use a neck brace, unless I have to, just thought I'd send you a link of an interesting product!!! I am beginning to realise that the love of my life, Bikes, CAN be and IS a hard mistress for us all at times.............and my years of "abuse" CAN and DOES make a big difference, honestly, before the MRI pics I still felt I had the neck muscles that any former " Naked Bike " owner would be proud of.....and pretty much, that is what the orthpedist said, my Vertebrae are fooked, my muscular/ligament system is compensating and supporting my neck/ back as much as it can........for as long as it can!!! Hindsight,yes...maybe if I'd of worn B/Protectors throughout the 80's /90's ( were they any good back then?) then I might have weathered the years better.................but if all we cared about was safety, we'd NOT be riding High powered Motorcycles at warp speeds now, would we.................. Take care out there M8!

Thanfully my neck is fine....its my middle back thats fooked (hard work picking a bag of sugar off the floor ffs...) and theres no way i will ever be allowed back on a race bike if SWMBO has anything to do with it; I have to admit to being tempted to try again though..... stil not for some months yet just to get back on a bike. Take care of ourself m8.

Don't know aboot over there, but over here is something called AccuSpina.seems to deal specifically with lower/middle back "squashed"/herniated discs. Linky http://www.webmd.com/vide.....-pain-accuspina Thats gonna be my problem viz a viz afore the accident I was lifting 55Lb cases of chocolate, 30-40 of them, from Warehouse > Truck then Truck > Store room, I used to stack 'em about 10 cases high, often throwing the least two up there!!!..........sometimes do that twice a week in our busy season!!! Now I can't even hang my lightweight Gore Tex rainjacket up over my head FFS!!!!! Me too, just looking at the Bike and bidding on rubbishy bling on Ebay....'cos that's all I can do at the Mo!!!!

Knox contour worn for the last ten days for a quick blast round Germany and Austria. I have the race version for extra protection around the coxys (sp?) Comfy, definitely. Not as sweaty as the older model it replaces. Do try for sizing before you buy!
