I'd always used Autosol, but noticed it says not for shiny motorcycle chrome! I've just fitted a new chrome can and don't want to damage/scratch the finish. Haven't noticed any problems before but no sure now.
Any ideas?

Bluesman,

I buy 10 tubes (£25) of Autosol at a time because of the large amount of chrome on my bike and apart from the headers, which have become dulled and scratched after 6 years my silencers and the rest of the pipes are still very shiny as are all the other items of chrome.

The best cleaner for chrome is Belgom Chromes, very fine and non-abrasive. Solvol is too abrasive for good quality chrome.

Well worth a try Bluesman, not cheap but very good.
Autosol is great for surfaces with a lot of shite or oxidization, but too coarse for the fine stuff. i'm never without a tube of it myself.

I wouldn't personally use Solvol exclusively as IMHO it's a bit too abrasive.

I have used it now and then and very gently on chrome which has rust spotting but then I go over it afterwards with a resin polish like Autoglym. The rest of the time I just use Autoglym. As some proof of efficacy my second bike is 10 years old, has rolled through through each and every winter being ridden most days and still buffs up really nicely.

And despite what it claims, "Blue job" is NOT the world's best chrome cleaner. It's just expensive!

Autoglym recommend their resin polish ( same stuff as for the paintwork ) for chrome.

As others have said, autosol is too harsh for chrome.

THE Business!

MEGUIAR'S ALL METAL POLISH

Bit pricey, but really good!

Also - their plastic polish is standard issue RAF polish for aircraft canopies - must be good!

Ah, your dear old mum Chris. Wouldn't your life (bike) be dull without her?!!

Not content with using her for your evil waterproofing compound experiments you also raid her cleaning cupboard. You little tinker! I now have a mental picture of you sprinkling "Shake and Vac" over your bike.

I'm not that sad!

Though I've got to give her........
She offered to buy me a ticket to the "IOW Festival" - next week, trouble is my sister is going and taking 3 teenage girls??? (2 are my nieces) - and the thought of "Babysitting" them doesn't do for me!!

Still, I managed to get some "Shiny Sink" from Tesco's(Stainless Cleaner) - as I put it in her trolley - yes, another "Job" I have to do now - I'm realising what my Dad had to put up with!!!
