Just after some info, has anyone got a good route down France to southern Spain, also how many days did you take? I've done Caen to Marseille in a couple of days , a bit of a blast most of the way, so reckon Malaga should take and extra day? ie 2 overnight stops? Any info appreciated. Van

The quickest is obviously the A131-A28-A10-A63-E05 and thence through Spain. I take 2 days to get to Biarritz as it's just plain boring otherwise. A nicer way, which takes longer, is to go via the N roads. Follow signs for Lisieux, Vimoutiers, Alencon, Le Mans, Tours, Chatellerault, Poitiers, (stay at Bugbears overnight) Angouleme, Bordeaux, Bayonne, Biarritz. Some fantastic roads, with plenty of places to rest and refuel. Frankly speaking, 300 miles is the most you really want to do if you want to arrive relaxed each day and make the journey part of the adventure, rather than just hooning down.

Malaga route
Fret Timing was the main issue, thanks for the info. I have looked at the routes and as you say depending on time available, N routes are the best; maybe end up doing a bit of both I want to avoid the main border crossing to Spain below Biarritz, try and go mid Pyrenees end up around Jaca and then blast down to malaga. Poof or not, even in the car we don't do huge mileages. I'd rather spend my time looking at the countryside than doing 2000mph down the autoroutes, which are still sublime anyway. I have a book called "Travellers' France" whcih explains it all in detail, should one wish to borrow it. Van Halen. Turn off at BAYONNE and head towards AINHOA, with it's quaint customs shops, that way you can easily slide into Spain with little efforts at all. Photo Album Image Photo Album Image

Boulonge to Poitiers via motorway in seven hours. Then N10 into Spain. First part is a long haul and a long time in the saddle. There is a monestry in the mountains near jaca. It does a superb bed and breakfast. Watch in the early morning for eagles flying high.

The col du Portalet between Pau and Jaca is well worth tackling.
