After riding the Norton for 3000 trouble free miles and parking it last Autumn, I finally put in the new battery and fired it up for the first time this year. Took off down the street and got about a half mile from home and all power off, dead. No start, no nothing and kicking it resulted in the same, nothing. Started pushing the bastard home and after getting tired I tried one more time out of desperation to start it and it lit. Jumped on and headed quickly for home. Let off of the throttle nearing a stop and boom, dead again and no hint of starting. Pushed it the rest of the way home, parked it in the garage and went for a ride on one of the Hinckleys, so much easier and so much nicer, I love the old ones, but hate em at the same time.

Checked Fuel flow??
Checked Ignition??

Check plugs? - Wet = Fuel OK, Dry = Fuel not OK!

New plugs? - Dirty CB points - both would do it!

Both OK - Boom, it goes, then down to fine tuning!

Though, here in the UK - new fuel (Petrol/Gasoline) would do the same!!

My bloody Guzzi hates "Old Fuel" - but loves "Fresh!"

Hey Chris thanks for the suggestions. I was more or less just bitching after nearly having the big heart attack pushing it home. My bad as in leaving old gas in it and not cleaning the carb before going out after winter storage. Has a boyer so likely ignition isn't the problem from just storage. It is probably bad gas and a clogged carb. As I get older, I find my tolerance for maintaining old bikes is becoming less and less and I find I am drawn more to the Hinckley's. I decided today that the gilera stuff is all going and if the Duc didn't look so nice in the house, I'd sell it also. I am having a desire for an old style tiger as in Hinckley, not like my 1970. The 70 is the only bike I will never get rid of.

Nooooooooooooooooo!!

Keep the old stuff!
I've busted my Enfield - Indian 40K miles on the clock, chain & sprockets job (+Primary, clutch etc.....) so, "Birthday Time!"
Starts 1st time (Electronic now) - does good "Gas mileage!", is slow = "Transport!"
All the parts obtained - no problem, "Doing" tomorrow!

My Guzzi (Le Mans MK1) need a full engine sort out (Rebuild) at 70K miles - easy job, totally reliable!=Next!

Got to finish my restoration on my MV125S - not much to do, then I'll start on something else??? (1953 Enfield Bullet)

All have carbs, no ECU - so set up "By ear!" - simple, I love them!

The Hinkley S3 is superb..................but WTF, it's quick but not quite "Owner friendly" - OK, it could be............time!!!

FMA ,I know what you mean- just want to put the key in and ride instead of go out try to start the damn thing for 4hrs-old bikes are great fun to put together and build but forget about actualy putting some miles on them-either we are getting old or the new technology is spoiling us!!!!!

jp,

It is a combination for me. Getting old and being spoiled by new technology. Although there is nothing like riding any old bike, I do relish the turn key and go for thousands of miles without a worry new bike.
