Chaps, Just had the front wheel out of the SP3 for a new tyre. As I removed the calliper bolts, out came the thread from the fork leg with one of 'em. Obviously the bastard now won't tighten up again. Anyway, rang my dealer who said that there has been a service bulletin about this and the torque setting has been reduced from 40nm to 35nm. He's promised to replace thefork leg under warranty, we'll wait and see.

Is it just me ? I'd be bit worried if a mere 5 Nm was a critical difference. Esp on something like a brake caliper that will be removed a fair few times over the life of the bike.

yep, front tyre change every 5>6000 miles pad change too, these can mount up, fork seal change @ whatever time you pick up some dirt & break a seal, Mmmm you should be able to remove your calipers etc more often than that I would have thought. having said that no probs with my ST forks.

Had mine off a few times with no problems but the bolts have been lubed at the factory with what appears to be a silver form of copperslip (silverslip?). Were yours assembled dry? Just finished my 12000 mile service though & had a similar problem with the steering head nut which is an alloy nut & was assembled dry onto the steel stem & 'welded' itself to the stem. Was a bugger to remove & had to replace the nut.

bit of controversy bike calipers are removed many more times than car ones are in their lifetime. A lot of people lube their caliper bolts with copaslip, (and how many use a torque wrench? - steel bolts into soft alloy) Manuals (Haynes especially) recommend using thread lock such as Loctite, which is near enough the opposite.

I always use a torque wrench & have never had the bolts come loose. I would say the use of loctite would be disasterous.

Likewise. Always a torque wrench and a light smear of copper grease. (Can't see mention of loctite in my Haynes)

Had the repairs done today. New fork leg, new torque settings and all for nowt on warranty. A1 Moto in York, top service and a loan of their 675 for half a day. WHAT a fooking bike that is. Had a go on a mates R6 and that felt like a 125 in comparison, amazing.
