Sprint ST (05->)

Hi,

I'm contemplating buying the TuneBoy to play with my Sprint ST 1050 (06 model) but there are no model specific tunes available apart from the standard Triumph ones.

Would modifying a standard ST tune with the values off a modified S3 tune work as basis to start tuning? Would that 'turn' the ST to an S3 engine wise or are there too many differences in other areas (e.g. exhaust) to make this feasible?

The S3 timing values are too exstream. You can take the dfferance between the S3 timing and the ST. Use about 1/3 of the differance. Use a calculator and the ignition trim table to do it. You can also reduce the screen size on your computer and display 2 maps at once.

You will need to boost your fuel trim also. For every full 1.0+ in timing you should at least boost fuel by 2 percent using the trim table. Advancing timing (+) creates heat, more fuel cools it.

I have a 05 ST, when I'm finished tweeking my own modifide maps I will post them. My TuneBoy paid for itself the first time I used it. The throttle bodies needed balancing and the idle stepper motor was a bit out. I had just had it "checked" by my local Triumph shop! Buy yourself a workshop manual, some of the special tools listed in the manual and learn to do all the work yourself.

A notebook computer (needed for straping on you or the bike so you can use the TuneBoy Data Logger while you test ride), the TuneBoy, and all the special tools cost about $1300 US dolars. I have saved double that in dealer service fees. Plus the bike now really runs great. Regular mantenence is key. I ride about 12,000 miles a year.

Hi Jeff,

I would be very interested in having access to your ST tunes and I'm sure lots of other ST owners would also as there don't seem to be any ST tunes available (apart from the stock ones).

Have you adressed the apparent flat spot between about 4K and 6K? Also, are you using the stock or an aftermarket can?

Hey Nik,
I will be happy to send you a tune. I'm using a stock can. They are based off of a aftermarket can tune. The offroad Triumph can does not have any dimentional changes over the stock can, so they produce the same back presures. Offroad tune will work fine with a stock can.

There are no apparent flat spots in the tunes I have. I'm fine tuning them so you can still get good gas mileage when just comuting. Then when you want it, it will light up!

I could send you a map now but in about 2 weeks I should have a refined version with some of the new data that I just received. You need a TuneBoy to load it into your bike.

Jeff,

Anyway you might share your tune?

It just warmed up enough to play with my new TuneBoy. I have the TOR pipe and now a Two Bros Pipe. It would be nice to see what you have came up with.

Are there any other custome maps out there?

Thanks,

Hey Kevin and Nik,
Sorry I haven't posted any tunes as of now. It has been a nasty winter here and I would like to refine the tunes just a little before I post them. Give me a few weeks, I have about 6 to sort through.
Kevin, How do you like your Two Bros. Pipe? I'm considering getting one.

Jeff,

The pipe is a whole different look but the sound is great....mean but not too loud. Much deeper and even Ducati riders like it.

I tried the map numbers from an 07 tune that Wayne sent me and its not bad……really smooth idle and pick-up. I will add a bit more timing next.

Kevin,
I installed a two bros. pipe. Great sound but my current assortment of ST maps don't work as well as I would like. I feel it's running a bit lean. What tune are you using?

Jeff,

Wayne sent me that custom St map for the 07 with aftermarket pipe and I spent a long time making the same kind of adjustments to the older 05 map and it seems smooth.
The map is a lot different than stock.
I can send you this map or I have this map with more timing just at the top end.
Both maps run strong and I hope to tweek them more if I can get a Dyno A/F reading at a decent price.

This tune (from Waynes 07 map) is now in the knowledge base area.
Tune was put into 05 - 06 map format after several hours of work.

Let me know how it works if you try it.

Hi Kevin,

Have you actually used this map in your ST. What were your impressions vs the Triumph aftermarket exhaust map? Have you dynoed the bike?

Kevin,
I tried and failed to download Wayne's ST tune. It is not in a DAT. file format. Please post what you have on the tune swap page or I'll give you my email.

I'm converting a Speed 3 dyno tune to 05-06 ST. The Two Bros. exhaust is very close to a Arrow system. lots of work!

Nik,
I will post several 05-06 ST w/SAI and aftermarket pipe, 20106 base.
I had a stock can and they worked great. Now with the Two Bros. can I have to start all over. The modifide maps spoiled me.

Jeff,
What format did it download in?
I just tried and it worked for me, it is a .dat file.

The tune seems to work real well with the twobros pipe. I have used it at the track and on a 250 mile ride in the mountains.
