Yes, it would be really nice to have a TuneBoy for that good midrange map, and to ditch the funny valleys of power in low RPM, but the real reason I am asking is because this bike is a hard starter. It takes 7-9 seconds of ignition time before the thing turns over. Would TuneBoy fix this?

Hatchetman - Welcome
7 - 9 seconds, that's a helluva long time - unless Mercun bikes have something different on vapour purging or summit and I would have thought that was more likely a Californy way type thing rather than east coast Boston?
Maybe some of your fellow statesiders can throw a little light on this.

Do you mean 7-9 seconds of starter churning before it fires up or 7-9 seconds before the starter will turn the engine?

If the first, suspect the cold start circuits.

If the second, suspect the lockouts for neutral, sidestand, etc.

Take the bike to your dealer there is a small rubber pipe that goes to the ecu from the throttle bodies I think.
It splits giving the ecu a false reading on cold starts.
I had the same problem on my 1050 Sprint dealers know about it, it's quite a common fault and a cheap fix.
A mate with a 1050 ST has just had the same problem as well.

Or the best bet is the ole,,crank a few times, ignition off,,10 sec wait, hit the starter and away she goes,,,dont know why it works, but it does,,,and of some note, ive got a TuneBoy, tried various maps, but i have to say the ole on, off , on trick works a treat..
