[edited]:

A flatbed with a car lift pulled up outside my office in Morden this morning and parked. The driver sat there for 20 minutes looking at his watch, then moved fowards next to the new merc he'd parked by.
They were obviously waiting to take it.

Then he lifted it and as it was about 15 foot in the air and half over the flatbed, he dropped it. The front swung down and smashed against the side of the flatbed and just sort of hung there.

The owner turned up and it turns out he is less than 10 minutes over his parking time, so they were sitting there waiting for it to go overtime so they could take it.
Photo Album Image

Ok, thats not going to work, weve just damaged the front now. Put it back on the truck
Photo Album Image

Tell you what, hook the front wheels over the edge and lower it down sideways on the truck.

Well the truck is damaged now, put it down and lift it with the other truck

Oh, we sem to have damaged the wheels a bit and it wont move forwards now, maybe we shouldnt put it on the truck.

I know, IM a complete fuckwit, Ive got a good idea, Ill put it back in the parking space it was in before I touched it.

As soon as the straps were off, the traffic warden you can see in the last pic got out a tissue and polished the rather large crease running the length of the roof as though it was going to make it all better, and gave the car a second parking ticket before walking off.

Then they all got back into the flatbed trucks and drove off, leaving the car there, fucked and with two parking tickets and with a stunned owner standing there. (The owner is the little old bald guy in the green jacket and white t shirt you can see in some of the pics)

The bloke operating the lift got really pissed off with me when I took his picture, and looked like he was going to cry when someone walked up and thanked him for the entertainment.

You couldnt fucking make it up.

The Merc owner's gonna make something out of it - you might as well,

Ive no idea what the outcome is going to be. I dont know the owner. I offered him a copy of the pictures, but he was taking his own so didnt need them.

The police in the police shop just stood in the window and pissed themselves. A police car turned up and they basicly told the transport london people and the wardens all they were going to do was make sure no one lost thier temper.
The owner was very calm and so the police just told the TL people it was thier mess and drove off laughing.
The owner appeared to be not that stressed and was on the phone getting legal advice and appeared to have all bases covered.

I have considered seeing if the papers want to buy the pics but I dont know if they would be worth anything.
I will see if I can find anything out though.

"make sure no one lost their temper"

FFS you'd think the coppers would have them for criminal damage, incompetent doesn't really cover it does it.

Fck sake really unbelievable, makes you wonder how often they damage vehicles without anyone seeing them and just walk away. Bunch of low life cnuts.

These so called `Parking Services` people are a law unto themselves specially in London....they`re just out to screw the poor motorist for all the cash they can get.
I know Couriers who refuse to do jobs to London now (specially Westminster) `cos they cant be bothered with the hassle....you only have to leave your van for a minute to ask directions and a CCTV will take a photo and `Hey Presto` a £60 Penalty Charge is winging it`s way to your door.
Transport for London is just a new way of saying `c*unts` in my opinon... (and Ken Livingstone is a twat).

Seriously Pump - these DO need to get to the papers, this is the sort of malicious shit that needs to be broadly exposed (as with all the other stuff..) - d'you want me to try?

IE - the theory is that a car that is deemed to be causing a serious obstruction/is a danger etc should be removed (as in, serious enough not to warrant a simple warning/penalty)

So by royally fucking around, this bunch of monkeys bring the entire street to a complete standstill for some considerable length of time - not to mention damage etc

Beggars belief

Daily Mail and Currant Bun first ports of call I reckon mate - you could even email them the link to this thread with your contact number - that would do it

Another point about this incident (that you have all so far missed!) is surely this lifting operation has health & safety implications; what if they had dropped the car onto a kid? If TFL can't gurantee 100% safety (clearly it is not), then they should not be doing such heavy lifting in a public place.

Sun still havent got back to me despite taking my pictures.
I guess they arent going to run it.
I had to look twice at the picture in the ES, I thought it was one of mine.

As for no damage, well what a load of bollocks.
If you look at the picture in the ES and the pictures I posted, you can very clearly see the lifting gear has pushed in a section of roof, and there are two large dents on each side at the front of the roof where the lifting gear hit it as the car swung down.

There was damage to the underside of the car where it hit the side of the truck, also as it swung down.

Guess I should have gone to the daily mail...

And up to over 23 thousand views.
Im famous...
