Has anyone successfully used just RTV in place of the paper gasket?

Can't you still make them using the INSIDE (non shiny) portion of a Kellog's Cornflakes box??.............seriously, what we used to do in the Eighties.........

Still do - depending on the vehicle! (Mates 1930's Panther!)

I always put a smear of grease on my gaskets - to hold them in place and to make it easier to remove.........in fact I haven't replaced a rocker cover gasket on my Guzzi for years

I once attended a "Guzzi Service School" and was warned against using "Hylomar" on oil feed joints - as it could block the oil pump if it gets into it?

Went for the RTV over existing gasket option, worked great w/no leaks.

I had forgotten about the cereal box instant gasket option - thanks for the reminder.
