Cross posted from Triumphrat.net... Long story short, I bought my Daytona a year ago from a local dealer, verified all recalls had been addressed with the dealer...called Triumph directly and they verified the dealer reported all recalls were addressed... ...BUT 3 weeks ago I was riding when the rear needle bearing broke and seized up my axle, which is why I posted the question about swapping swingarms a while back. I did some research yesterday and found out that what happened was exactly why they created the recall...which makes me believe my bike was either a) not fixed or b) not fixed correctly. Overall I'm pretty pissed about the whole scenario (more at my dealer than Triumph)...because if I had been riding fast or in a turn, I'd have been seriously hurt or worse, I was lucky I was only going straight. But before I start raising hell locally (if that's what I end up doing), I want to get as much info and ammo as I can. My plan is to contact Triumph directly and get more information from them before I address this with my dealer. Has anyone gone through this type of process with Triumph? Are they easy to deal with directly or am I in for a fight?

you'll need to find out if a) your bike was covered by the recall and B) which dealer did the recall. Triumph should help with the information but it is not their fault that a dealer made a mess of a recall fix.

Triumph will more than likely send you back to the dealer. The usual procedure is for the dealer to examine the bike, and either fix it or report to Triumph, depending on what they find.

Thanks guys. I've already determined that my bike was covered under the recall and I know which dealer processed the recall (it was purchased from and exclusively serviced at one location prior to my buying it). I'm still going to call them and go through the process, but it sounds like I need to be working with my dealer.

You were lucky Tim; a guy over here was killed when his rear wheel bearing seized on his Sprint about 3 years ago......give them hell!

^^That makes me feel....well....uncomfortable. I actually have been working with Triumph on the wheel bearing, they're very strong in stating that they have NEVER, I repeat NEVER had record of a wheel bearing breaking. They said the only way they would continue working with me is if I have a certified Triumph mechanic look at the swingarm....this took a while as the guy I talked to was quite upset that I had taken the swingarm off by myself.

Tim, I'd get a decent lawyer on standby and I'd refer Triumph to the UK death of the Sprint rider in Suffolk who was killed after the bearing failure and then negotiate a deal if you know what I mean. Anyway a bearing seizing or breaking up are one and the same effectively, with the same out come for the rider. Get ready for Triumph to blame it on the dealer and vice versa. That's what happened with the UK court case. Good luck.

Thanks for the heads up Obi Wan. Do you know where I can access details of the UK rider's death in case I need it...especially referencing the wheel bearing?

Crikey ! I've got the same bike !
I can only hope my own dealer dealt with any recalls. Shit, fact is, I'd no idea there were any recalls. Anyone know where I can get a list ?

...or call Triumph with your VIN number and they'll tell if your bike has been fixed for all recalls and who did the work.

Check on-line http://www.triumph.co.uk/uk/7094.aspx Think you need to check with a dealer the exact nature of the recall, if yours is listed.

[edited]: Checked on-line, and...
the USA site says "evah-thang gon' be copacetic" but somehow, I remain dubious. Next step is to try that UK site, and THEN I'll call the dealer once all those slackers crawl out from under their respective rocks. Appreciate turnin' me on to the term "stealership" too. Thanks, y'all.

One of the lads here had a rear wheel bearing break up on his Sprint ST (05), I was with him at the time, Triumph repaired it FOC. Luckily the problem was discovered when it was stationary and became difficult to move. http://www.t595.net/messa.....ings/60656.aspx

No outstanding bulletins
Entered my VIN and it looks as though I've no problems. This kind of shit happening makes me paranoid. Guess I'll really cast the hairy eyeball over the outside and try to see is there any little cracks.

[edited]: Whoops
Rofl seems riding might be a tad dangerous, got some recalls on the bike too. I'm trying to fix broken fuel couplings, so not a lot of danger as I can't ride. But it might be wise to get it behind a box on a trailer and drop it off at the dealer. Anyone got an idea how long you have before they say the bike is to old? It's a '98 tona, but only serviced by a dealer for the breakin period, so guess it's only been there twice. [Edit] Other posts mention no time limits, prolly should read before I post [/Edit]
