Has any member a tip for draining the tank on a T595? My Haynes manual refers me to the Tank removal section but it says nothing about removing ther fuel. Is the only solution to syphon it out? Seems a bit "Heath Robinson " to me but I can see no other answer.

That's what I did with mine - be prepared for a moutful of petrol. Get most out then when you take fuel pump off (if that's what you're doing) drain rest into a bucket. Alternatively watch it drip out of the non sealing female connectors.

I think you can buy some sort of vacuum pump but didn't seem worth it for a job you probably won't do all that often. Mine had a load of sludge in the bottom of the tank as well, also a good opportunity to check your vent valves aren't all clogged up as well. Good Luck.

I had to do that before I crated it to send it back to the UK - I used a hose to get it out by siphoning! Then, I left the cap open for a couple of hours! Back in the UK, poured a couple of gallons of expensive fuel in, pushed starter button - all OK!

I had to do this a couple of weeks ago, when I had to remove the fuel pump. (Internal hose came off) Rather a low-tech solution Im afraid. Tipped it upside-down over a bucket and poured it out the way it goes in. Wiggled it about a bit as there is a lip on the filler, but most of it splashed it's way out eventually. Tipped the last dregs out of the hole where the fuel-pump goes. Wasn't more than a cup-full left though. Obviously I was outside, NOT near the house in the middle of my lawn (away from anything remotely compustable, or ignition sources).

ive got an old pipe coupling that i just plug in and then run the pump no spills and i just pipe it into a can ready to go back in

I used to use a bit of hose to syphon. Then I found a 'jiggle syphon' in Halfords and have used that ever since. Its a length of clear hose so you can see whats in it, with a brass nozzle on one end with a brass ball held inside it with a lip. You push this end into the tank, and then litterly jiggle it up and down. The movement makes the ball rise an let some fuel in, and then drop back with the reverse flow. After a moment or two of jiggling it, you get enough fuel in the pipe that it starts to syphon naturally. It makes draining tanks simple and easy. Ive never had petrol in my mouth again The only thing with it is the pipe is coiles in the package so it wants to go back into that shape all the time. I soaked it in very hot water for a while and then hung the warm pipe from my garage roof over night to dry to get rid of the coiled memory.
