They've certainly got problems. Bit of a dilemna for them, if Bayliss manages to repeat the last performance, he put in on a MotoGP bike tho.

I hope they sort the bike for Melandri as he is FAR better than his results are showing.

Ducati put all their eggs in the Stoner basket and now it's turned to shit they don't know which way to turn IMO, because all he appears to be able to do is turn up and ride what's given to him. Honda have gone though the same experience on a number of occasions previously at times when they did not have a good rider (in terms of both bike development AND temperament) who would stand up to the engineers and say "Fcuk you, I want xxxxx" and/or "I'm not riding the bike with that on it" ......... Look at what happened when Criville took over from Doohan and later when Rossi jumped ship to Yamaha. The engineers had their way and turned out mega-horsepower unrideable beasts .......... I am rapidly coming to the conclusion that Ducati struck it lucky with Stoner last year and that they need a good development rider PDQ on the 800 if they want to salvage anything from this year's effort. We'll see.

No, last year they had an extra fuel tank that they called a catch tank with an extra litre in that allowed them to run a mega horsepower tune..........................

Would the absence of the "alleged" catch tank (or it being still there but empty) affect handling greatly ...?? I can't believe the difference between last year's bike and this. It's like the present model just does not want to go round corners judging by the way Stoner struggles with it.

It could be the fact that having to run less power means they are trying to run extra corner speed which they are not managing. Stoner is not struggling anywhere near as much as the other Ducati riders

[edited]:
or it could be the fact that the other bikes are so much better than last year forcing the Ducati riders to ride outside the comfort zone of the bikes

I think they (Ducati) fell lucky with Stoner last year, he's not a development rider and now that last years bike has run it's course he's having to develop the 08 bike ............ and he can't!

Same scenarios and ideas/suggestions being broached on other forums. Are you saying we're all wrong ......?? I think that 2007 was a year when everything came together perfectly for Ducati and it'll take a big slice of luck and/or a load of hard work for lightning to strike in the same place twice. BTW of course Ducati are panicking, they're Italian FFS .......!!

Even guys here are reluctantly saying something is wrong which is a big deal when you consider that last year Stoner was the next Rossi.

Spondon, I said last year to a number of people this side of the pond who spoke of Stoner being the next Rossi to remember what happened to Alex Crivlle after he won the 500GP title on a bike on which he did none of the development, it had all been done by Doohan prior to his retirement ....... the self same thing applies to Stoner. This is not to say Stoner is not an extremely good rider, obviously he is. However the package he had last year made him look like Superman which he most definitely isn't, IMHO ......... a rider does not go from being a serial crasher and also-ran on a 990 Honda to winning a world title by a distance on an 800 Ducati without the package of bike, setup, and tyres being involved somewhere along the line. And as others have pointed out when the opposition are moving forward in leaps and bounds then obviously Ducati have to keep developing thier bike to stay ahead of the field. To do that they need a rider capable of doing development work, and I personally am not sure if Stoner is that rider. On the face of it up to this point I'd have to say he is not.
