Speed Triple 955i (02-04)

29 May 2006 21:25
I have a 2004 speed triple. Apparently I have faulty engine casings and I think I'm going to be offered a repaired engine. As you can imagine not very happy - as far as I am concerned, new engine or nothing. Does anyone know if this was a factory recall and, if so, when. Any information much appreciated.

Faulty engine casings? Are you talking clutch cover etc or crankcase?

Engine oil leak

Crank cases unfortunately just been informed by Triumph. Only solution is to replace engine casings. Not happy, but very good service from Triumph as they are prepared to pick up bike and have their own engineers sort the problem. Thanks for your post.

The casings are matched pairs.

I would not be happy with a 2nd hand replacement unless I knew the history of the donor bike.

I'd insist on a new pair unless they are doing you a favour as the labour charge will not be insignificant

Ooops... Just re-read your original post.
Sorry for the bollox post (Its normal around here though)

Its a complete engine and not just the casings.
Again, What was the history of the donor engine?

Why replace the whole engine if the casings are at fault?

Don't smell right to me

probably quicker/cheaper to supply an engine, than strip one to replace the cases.

tho "a repaired engine" sounds a bit dubious.
Think I'd want to know more, before agreeing.

If its being done at the factory or under warranty it will be either a complete re-build with a new set of cases or a replacement new engine, although my moneys on a re-build.

A manufacturer would not fit a used engine under warranty so no worries there.
