Hi all I have just acquired my 1st Triumph, a 2004 Speed Triple and I am very pleased with it, there is something I would like some advice on. The Fuel light is supposed to come on with approx 4 Litres left in the tank but the 1st time mine came on at about 100 miles and when I filled up 10 miles later it only took 10 litres. The last fill up I pushed my luck for about 30 miles and then filled it up and managed to get 16 litres in. Is this a fuel sender problem or is this a "character" of the bike and what would be a realistic tank range for someone who rides enthusiastically

Hi Badger, sounds like sender unit. You should get around 260-320km before light comes on. Four litres of 'reserve' will get you 35-50km (20-30miles roughly) depending on action of right hand These senders are usually pretty good, may have been 'fiddled' with during a filter change, or may be getting hung up in its tube.

Common thing with Triumphs. Best to find out what your tank range is and ride to that - perhaps take a can of petrol along with you.

Thanks for the info guys, looks like it may be a couple of litres of fuel and work out what the tank range is. I think I will find out the price of a new sender, or replace the float if thats possible

you wont go far wrong if you work on 10 miles per litre ! an 02MY tank holds approx 19.5 litres nett )21L quoted is gross of fuel pump etc) All low-fuel warnings are different - depends on resistances etc and manufacturing tolerances I guess....

As Grantrip says, depends on lots of stuff, how you ride. On the T595 it would come on anywhere between 100 and 130 miles. 10 miles per litre will sort you out
