Speed Triple 955i (02-04)

In the near future while I service the speed triple, Im going to replace the fuel couplings, both the female that screw into the pump plate and the male on the hoses.
The current plastic female ones dont seal when you disconnect, so if you dont siphon out the tank you cover the bike in fuel.

I looked in the shop on this site but there doesnt seem to be any place to purchase them via the site, and on the Colder Products web site http://www.colder.com/asp_main/default.asp who I believe are the suppliers I cant find them.

Does anyone know the product code for the Colder Products couplings, or is there anywhere else that can supply me with metal couplings that seal when disconnected?

*Edit*

A UK firm would be good if possible because after doing some reading up the couplings I found on www.rideteamtriumph.com and McMaster wont be any good as they have a non UK thread type?
So Im not sure about the Colder ones now either.

*double edit*
Why the f*ck triumph didnt just fit proper ones in the first place...

LCD10006BSPT 3/8BSPT VALVED CPC COUPLING BODY

they usually have them in stock, but can be a touch on the expensive side.

or try...cheaper

Dave, if you disconnect the tank a few times, the plastic female couplings will leak when you disconnect them sooner or later. The seal is internal to the female coupling.
They do not leak when they are connected back up to the male connector, but they dont seal like they should when you remove the male.
If you did change just the O ring it could be very bad,
From Mike Parker who is the UK distributor:

We are the UK distributors for Colder Products® http://www.colder.com and supply the couplings to Triumph for use in their pressure tested assemblies.

These are NOT standard couplings, they have a special hose barb, designed for the hose that Triumph uses, and TWO FKM seals.

If the external O-ring only is replaced, there is the potential for the fuel to swell the internal O ring, and then an internal spring will pop out the valve.

Which can spray fuel over a hot engine.
Very very bad.
Ill replace the whole things tank side and fuel pipe side with new metal couplings that I know seal properly and fuck off the crap plastic triumph oem ones.

I can vouch fer the RideTeamTriumph ones , easy to fit, work like a charm.and are compatible wiv the already supplied Triumph metal female connectors.........so effectively you are left with two 'spare" connectors, from team triumph, supplied in the kit.......

surely with the abysmal state of the dollar........are they not good value in't UK??????

The genuine triumph part, is £50. And according to Jack Lilley its that much because it comes with the fuel hose.
And you need two, so thats £100 outlay.

Or I can buy them from Parkers (who supply triumph) for around £40 for the lot, all in price including postage.

Bit of a no brainer really...

hay Bas... I tried to get them for the site earlier in April. Spoke to some of their staff as well. I'm pretty sure the ones that you ordered don't have the Viton seals in them. They come with normal seals which aren't the ones you need. The Viton fittings are on special order from them and take about a few weeks from the supplier. Incase you haven't recieved them yet..... please check with them again.

but hopefully they got some stock this month when you ordered and sent you the right ones.

Thx for the heads-up on the seals.

Forgot to post again, but they only do overseas with creditcards, and I don't have one, so wrong seals are not an issue for these.

For the tom parker site I've the same problem, no cc

Sourced them through ebay now and hope I get them soon.

Trouble might be that the ones I will get now also might have the wrong seals. The males aren't hard to fix, but dunno if it is possible to fix the female's. As far as I remember when I pulled the broken ones, the seal is on the valve in the coupling, bit hard to get at.....

Hope the whole mess can be sorted quick, no other transport atm to get stuff. My trusty box doesn't want to run either and the dealer is a bit slow to come and get it.

Glad I can use a bicycle to go to work!

BAS... I just replaced the seals in the female couplings last week with help from King-Key 's instructions. It is possible but you need to be patient.

But if you found them on e-bay... they MIGHT be Triumph specific ones and already have the Viton seals in them.

Regarding Credit-cards.... you should get yourself one of those pre-paid credit cards like BOPO in Australia. They are great because you can only spend how much ever YOU put in there in the first place... so no such thing as a DEBT.

Life is a pain in the arse without credit cards when it comes to overseas or internet purchases. Money-orders and Cheques take ages to clear.

Thx Blue

The ones I get are advertised as Triumph/Duc replacements, so the seals should be ok. Is it easy to check when I get them, or are they just black and rubbery?

Dealer also got back on an email after about a week, only can order the barbie parts.

Don't know if we can get a pre-payed CC here.

For on-line payments we have IDEAL with the major banks here in the Netherlands. It is almost as fast as handing over the money, so no delays at all. Beauty is that with my bank you can opt for authorization with sms on your mobile with a code to clear the payment. Bit difficult to hack into

Its hard to tell the difference between the seals as it depends on the manufacturer. The main difference is the weight. The Viton ones are much heavier.

Some Viton seals have a little white dot on them which set them apart. But it depends on the manufacturer as the ones I bought were just " black and rubbery". No white dots. Salesman assured me they were Viton and that they feel heavier..... problem was I couldn't feel the difference. My fingers weren't that sensitive

just to let people know, www.tom-parker.co.uk 01772 251405 delivered me a pair of female(tank) couplings in chrome plated brass for £12.00 each +VAT & postage within 24hrs regestered mail, very nice they are to!they do both parts in metal. Another word of warning, I contacted triumph at hinckley to make sure that I had the right thread size (1/4BSPT) & their tech person informed me that the female threads on the tank plate are tapered! consequently the brass couplings sit 2-3mm higher than their plastic counterparts, but with a couple of turns of ptfe tape seal just fine.
If the plastic couplings screw in deeper makes you wonder how much they are stressed & is that why they are so fragile?

[edited]: Crap, wee bit to big

Short update;

got the couplings, female went in without a hitch, males are a headache. Couplings I got through fleabay are for 955 after rereading the offer. Thought it would be ok if you look for the parts in the micro fices. Seems they changed the diameter off the fuel hoses on 955 compared with the 595.

I can almost put the hose into the male connecter instead of over it. Seems I'll have to get other diam hose and figure out a way to get bigger diam ring that goes over the banjo bolt (part no. T1240748) on the fuel rail. Need to fix it this way as I already destroyed the male plastic barbie parts

I'm 'thinking' of changing mine even though they are currently ok I did have to change the seals last time the tank was off.

I have one question to anyone who has changed the male parts on the fuel pipe.

What did you use to secure the pipe to the fitting? Std screw type hose clamps or something else?

cheers

they came with a hose clamp which is made for the job.
not a screw type, a crimp-till-it-catches-the-lip type.

the clamp is made in specific sizes and that clamp can only work for that size.

..if that makes sense for ya
