Nice One Polly

Good one I was just saying how crap mine was to me mate this weekend - talk about fate.

I previously fitted a car air horn to my old bandit - sounded wicked - should have kept that. Still looking forward to my new one now. Thanks

Nice'n'fat, do you think it comes with a pre-piss semll built in?

Is this horn a single tone, or a dual tone? I ask, because having played about with car and bike horns, I find the car dual tone horns more cutting, even though the same volume. I notice there is a dual tone, but don't know if it would fit.
Any idea how they would compare to the Fiamm horns? I definately need to upgrade my horn, but just aren't sure which way to go.

Thanks for the link Polly. I'd have never have found it!

I ordered two, one for the daytona and one for the pegaso.

On the daytona I couldn't fit it in the usual position so ended up fitting it under the front tank cover, yes really, aint tried it in anger but was loud in the garage. Then I tried to fit one to the pegaso which you'd have thought would have had lots of room - started to loose the will to live after an hours of f**king about so ended up putting the original back on - project for another day methinks.

I got one, fitted it - tested it first..fine, sounded great - sprayed silver backing on it black of course

But, when I fit it and bolt it up tight (so it doesnt flap about) it changes into a pathetic little farty sound

It's on the workbench now and OE horn back on the bike....scratching head as to what to do about that...

Ash,
have found in the past some horns don't like to be too tight, need a little bit of flap.
Might need a small bracket with a little give in it.If it works when off the bike may be the thing.
Could also be that it is getting too much of an earth.
Give it a go and see what happens.

HORN IS TOO TIGHT

YEP IT IS TOO TIGHT, ON MY T509 THERE IS A RUBBER GROMMIT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BRACKET AND EVEN WHEN YOU TIGHTEN UP THE NUT IT STILL HAS A GOOD AMOUNT OF FLAP SO TO SPEAK

The rubber grommet is there to allow the horn to resonate at whatever frequency it's designed to - it's this resonance that gives the volume, and to a certain extent, the tone....

Ash, you great big muscled loon! It's a horn you are tightening up, not a ships anchor! It doesn't have to be THAT tight!

Who the fook uses a horn on a bike anyway? I thought they just fitted them to give you a ready wired switch for the nitrous or air shifter?

Does it have an adjustment screw and locknut?

If so loosen the locknut and move the screw in/out until you get the desired volume. Usually a screwdriver fitting)

Polly,..did you have to hook up the relay ? How did you go about that ? Connecting it straight to the two plus minus cables of the original factory horn doesnt do it.

Here is the thread i opened with some pictures. Would appreciate any help

i got the stebel magnum on my ST, had to make a new bracket so the trumpet bit would point outwards and downwards through the hole for maximun effect, but not foul the front wheel during braking.
its nice and loud

the nautilus is an airhorn, it needs a relay wiring in to the battery because it'll pop the fuse if you wire it straight to the original horn connectors. its quite big, i dont think it would fit under a faired model

The Stebel Magnum is available at Halfords, or it is at my local branch in Chatham anyway as I noticed today.
