Visor or plastered with bugs the other week and I couldn't see. So I finally gave in, and went after a visor wipe thing what Bosun has got. It's a bottle, with a triangular sponge on the end. You wipe the wt sponge over the visor and polish off. Worked really well.

H-G don't sell 'em, but they DO sell their own version. A spray bottle, with a sponge one one side of a rubber bottle cover, and a wipe on the other. Used it the other day, and it got 100% of the dead and dried bugs, road grime, rain splotches and oil off the visor! Brilliant! Cost a fiver, and is brilliant! Small, compact and bloody brilliant! Everyone ought to have one.

Here is one you can get in the states. I've had mine for a few years great item you can keep in your tank bag or pocket.

That's the one Bosun has that prompted me to go get one.

The one 'Arry's got (also known as a Wee Willy) is the one to go for (I'm on my third). The Free View one (yellow triangle) has a really abrasive sponge. Don't even think about using a Free View if you have a mirrored visor, it'll scratch it.

But I use the Free View and I have a mirrored visor, and it hasn't scratched it yet. Well, not in the last year, anyway.

And I refill it with Halfords screenwash.

Mind you, I am blinder than a cave fish...

Maybe they've changed. I got a freeview many moons ago and it scratched the shit out of my old rainbow iridium visor on my black Quantum E (luckily it was scratched already).

I still reckon the Wee Willy type is better, it has the spray head and the wiper blade as well as the sponge. I just fill mine with water and a couple of drops of washing up liquid. harsh chemicals (even some off visor cleaner products you can buy) can make visors very brittle.

I used mine several times now, and have to say it's bloody brilliant! Stuffed full of that Autoglym visor cleaner stuff, it not only cleans the bugger reet good, but also, when it rains afterwards, which this time of year it inevitably does, it beads off better too! It's great! Should have brought one of these ages ago!!!

I've used one for years, never go out on a bike without it. Not that I ever go out on a bike anymore.

Two things:

1. I am never, ever, going to walk into a shop and ask the assistant if he has a Wee Willy I can try.

2. I am never, ever, going to spend £14.99 just to clean a few bugs off a visor http://www.shop-com.co.uk.....46?sourceid=309

I'm still on the £2.99 Free View I bought two years and over 12,000 miles ago. And it has a wiper blade on the side of the bottle (small, but it works).

£14.99? I paid about a fiver for each of mine (a lot less than that for the last one, but that was at cost price).

They must have changed the Freeview, mine didn't have a wiper.

Barney used to keep The Purple Pants Of Doom under his seat for cleaning his visor, but they got very manky when he left them under there in the garage all winter and he had to bin 'em.

Yeah, they simply are amazing! I posted about them last year when I discovered them, and have since sent several to other people, Fret, Bugbear, Ian, and am on my second one now, the first having torn from use. Amazing little gadget, although I keep mine on the index finger of the left hand, not the thumb. It works better that way.

Ade, Autoglym makes the visor brittle? Really? Shitbags! Thanks for the heads up! Sorry to hear about your wages mate. That is super shit. Hope you get it sorted soon.

And that wee willy is the same thing I have, and I paid a fiver for it. $15 is insane! Why the buggery is it $15? I got the bottle, the bottle johnny wipey thing, the stuff in it, and two polishing cloths for a fiver. That's mental!

And why th ebuggery doesn't my pound symbol work????

Gericke sell those finger wipes too. A pack of two is £1.99 IIRC.

Apparently so. Supposedly they use it as an example at Arai training seminars. They bend a visor backwards and it springs back. Then they spray it with that stuff, bend it again and it snaps. That's 2nd hand information (I never got round to trying it), but worth bearing in mind maybe.

I have one of those spray thingies with a sponge on one side and a squeegee on t'other. Fill it with lairy fiquid and away you go. I think it was free witha bike mag around 10 years ago.

I'm sure I read somewhere that washing up liquid is abrasive and causes scratches, which is why it isn't recommended for cleaning cars, etc.

Or it could have been sandpaper...

I think its not recommended because it contains a lot of salt which is used as a thickening agent.

It does contain salt, amongst other things. I only put literally 2 drops of it in my visor spray.
