So I guess my cooling fan doesn't work, found that out warming the bike up on a warm day, it spit some antifreeze out the overflow, and now the head gasket is hasta la pasta and I've got a mean oil leak from the front of the cam chain section of the head, anyone have something like this happen?

The red oil/coolent light did not come on? That sucks. You might need to have the head planed as it could have warped slightly, happened to my friends tona, went through a head gasket before we figured it out. It would squirt hot, sticky coolant all over you at revs cause of the blow by from the cylinders. How mean is a "mean oil leak"?

Still got the Busa, 955 is my stunt machine. Mean oil leak like a quart in 100 miles, all over the engine and rear tire, and getting worse every minute. I'm pulling the motor and head tomorrow I think.

If the head is warped a bit, there won't be any trouble with the cams or anything? I can just get it shaved straight on the bottom and slap it back on? What's everyone's thoughts on re-using the head gasket? I'm an old school V-8 guy, can re-use anything that's in one piece on those old things, but a 9,000 rpm engine...I dunno.

Gotta replace the head gasket. As far as the valves, I don't know I am sure it depends how badly it is warped. If its real bad im sure it would be obvious that the valves would be affected, my friends head just needed a tiny bit shaved, head gasket can make up for some.

Hey Mr. Pinko, how much did your boy have shaved off the head? I've got mine in the machine shop, but no idea how much I can take off before valves hit pistons or cams get out of timing.

Hi DJ, Re the fan; I've had a couple go t*ts-up. Take the fan off and turn it by holding the fan centre (gental pressure required). If it feels rough, then it's the bearings that have seized. Personally I think it's a crap design that can't handle the Triumph's heat and should have been a factory recall! F

The fan turns fine, although the blades are a little melty. It would seem that when the doop doop that owned the bike before you unplugs it...it won't come on. Who ever heard of that?

Yeah, when the bearings fail, it hits the radiator & melts & sticks to it! F

I had to take .009" off mine, that's quite a bit as far as surfacing goes. Yes, you need to replace your head gasket- it should only be about $65, and I promise you won't want to do it again. At 9 thousandths you won't have any interference problems, although your compression will be slightly higher. Mine ran happily after I went through this for about a year, and then gave me the fit of issues I'm having now. Do you have frothy milky oil already? It's time to stop running the motor if you haven't figured that out. I'm not sure about the oil leak, can you post pictures? Good luck man. You're going to get really friendly with Torx bits.

I got .006 off mine yesterday. No frothy oil, no oil in my coolant that I can find, looks like I just got off with the cam chain area oil leak, so the engine should be fine...I hope. Torx? I own Torx now, just bought the company since it was cheaper than getting all the small pieces I needed. I gotta say, England wins the prize for the wierdest engineering I've seen on a bike, even my Ducati makes more sense to me. If the boner on ebay ever sends me my stinkin manual that I ordered before I started this project, I'll even get it put back together someday.

Well...I know a thing or two about breaking things, so by default I know a thing or two about fixing em. A couple questions that came up with my muscle car buddies have to do with head bolts. They insist that my bolts are now stretched and will either need to be replaced or have a couple thousanths taken off the bottoms so they don't bottom out due to the lower head height, but I've never read anything about this as far as my triple is concerned, anyone have any ideas?

They're talking about torque-to-yield or TTY head bolts. They are designed to stretch when torqued, and should be replaced once removed. I'm not sure if the triumph head bolts are TTY or not, but I wouldn't worry about them bottoming out. The few thousandths they might have stretched + surfacing isn't enough to give you clearance issues. I reused mine, and they torqued fine.

I figured out what was wrong with my fan. Nothing. The retard before me unplugged it. It works great...too late though.
