Speed Triple 955i (02-04)

Hello

at the beginning of March 2006 I had visited the motorcycle fair DORTMUND (Germany) and this photo had made.
This new brake disk is joined from 10 segments and therefore is not possible a flat delay

???Can flat delay be prevented at all???

I would say that it IS in the right forum. But some people rarely, if ever, venture from sports.

It looks a bit odd, but also rather cool. The second one, the jig-saw pattern, looks really wierd. But what is flat delay? And what does that arrangement do, other than look flash?

Flat Delay = brake fade, I think.

The arrangement makes the disc a collection of much smaller discs so although they will heat up very quickly they will also cool down very quickly. They will also not warp the same under heavey and continuous use like a 'solid' disc will.

They will also scrape the discs and keepthem clean al a Galfer type wave discs only more so due to the greater area of 'edges'

I'm just assuming all this bTW, haven't seen any write up on them.

so, basically, a sound idea then? I assumed that warpage would be considerably less because of the shape allowing more movement.

Could be a bloody good idea!

can't knock new ideas

look like they'd be expensive to make tho.
Do road riders really get problems with brake fade ?

I would think it'd be just as easy to make hundreds of parts than one whole disk.

The wastage might be less as you only have to throw away the faulty segment rather than the whole disk.

Hi

???Can flat delay be prevented at all???

Was in such a way meant: lateral flat impact due to heat effect

Road riders don't suffer from brake fade, just brain fade from watching the pretty scenery around them. I know because I am a road rider and no longer ashamed of it. Years of therapy cured me.

Actually I bet they would be MUCH cheaper to make, but they'll never admit it. To make a one piece 320mm disk you are going to need to start with a piece of flat stock that is more than 320mm and the middle that is removed would be waste. So how many can you get out of say a 4' X 8' plate with all the centers that are cut out as waste.

With the segment assembly like this you could start with the same large plate, but the center is no longer waste, it's more segments. And with today's laser cutting or more likely a water jet machine it would only be a matter of seconds to cut them to shape. Just think how many could be cut from a single 4' X 8' plate! (or more likely an 8' X 20' plate for production.)
