Tiger 1050 (07->)

[edited]:

borrowed from www.tiger1050.com:
This is genuine hot stuff... you heard it here first!

The other day I spoke with a Triumph insider (employed by Triumph, that is) who's name I cannot remember and if I did, I would not divulge. The general discussion revolved around new models yet to be released but of course most of us have heard the official line about the 24 new models being variations of current models, that will be rolled out over the next four years. I first heard that line from a Triumph UK speaker at the NSW Rat Raid last year.

Well, this conversation filled in a number of gaps in the official 'four year mantra' however to be totally frank, the mode of conversation between the aforemention Triumph man and myself consisted of more nods, smiles, winks mixed with various hyperbole, metaphors, analogious descriptions, hyperthetical 'possibilities' all the while mixed with some carefully crafted words. The intent was obvious, my man wanted to talk however was bound by a code of silence and confidentiality that reduced his 'conversation' to much body language intersperced by many riddles however, a very clear picture soon emerged. I will cut to the chase.

1. Expect to see a shaft driven Tiger 1050 designed to go head to head with the R1200GS in the dual-sport off-road stakes.
2. Expect to see the correctly named 675 Tiger Cub in at least two forms, a. supermotard and b. a more dirt oriantated version of No.1 but with 21" front wheel, long travel suspension, chain drive etc etc... built to compete head to head with the F800GS.
3. Expect to see a Yamaha FJR like version of the Sprint ST with electric windsreen adjustment, bigger fairing with more touring and less sport in it's DNA make-up.
4. Expect to see no further mutations in the 865 twin cylinder range and don't ever bother looking for a big Daytona as competing with the well developed Japanese 1000 sport bikes is not an option.
5. Don't place bets on the final engine size of the widely touted 1700cc mid-sized cruiser and certainly don't take the MCN 'scoop' pics as anything that might ressemble the final article, but rest assurred, it WILL have the right 'look' as this market segment dictates and demands.

We live in interesting times!

OK this is a quote 'borrowed' from www.tiger1050.com. It's provided an interesting thread with lots of input from our own Fretster. Be interested to here the views of other resident T595ers.

Looks like I'd better start saving for the "Proper" Tiger then.

Don't forget the 489 Bonneville derivatives which will count as new models.

Shafts or Chain - That is the question?

What about a big tourer - FJR / BMW basher

Proper Trailey - GS's are so embedded is it worth chasing that market?

something smaller to start with makes sense, get t'young uns into the Brand.

According to MCN, there's a new, upmarket Street Triple about to be launched.

With brakes and suspension from the 675 Daytona.
