I am a newbie to this site. I have an 04 955i that I just installed Wolfs undertail pipes on. I also purchased a TuneBoy (waiting on my code). My question's are: 1) If anyone has this set up or similair what would a good tune be to start with? 2) I am interested in learning about tuning so I can adjust / correct a tune for my bike but I am new and lost. What is a good place to start? Where did you guys learn from other then someone else since there is nobody close to me? A book, website, ect.

Thanks,

Ok.... I loaded the Massive Midrange tune into the bike tonight. Took it for a spin and now I have a few small problems and some questions to go along with them.

The idle is smooth then it will bump up for a second, like a surge, then drop back down, then surge again. The second issue is it seems to bog down in first untill it hits about 3500 to 4000 then it wants to shoot out from under me like a rocket. I have to hold on tight then.

Thanks in advance for the help. One day I will hopefully know enough to help newbies like myself out.

rob have you tried resetting the tps, as that should smooth out the idle IIRC,
i had that tune in my 04 daytona and leaned it out a bit. it was far smoother after that.

its called modified mm3 i think

Reset the throtte position after loading a tune everytime. Your model uses a narrowband sensor to control idle and IIRC the MM tune utilises this as wel so it could be you have a faulty O2 sensor (look at the AF1 table and see where the settings are for 14.7, does this equate to)

I reset the throttle position sensor (clicked he tuneboy button, started the bike and waited about 30 seconds or so?) and this seemed to fix the idle problem. It's pretty smooth nowwith an ocasional surge. I also loaded the 10181 tune into it this morning and rode it to work. It still has a bad hesitation / slugginess below 4K. How can I check and see if the O2 sensor is bad? Also the bike is an 04 and sat for a little less then 2 years. The injectors were clocked so I removed them and took them to the shop for cleaning. Could a clogged injector have fouled a plu and that might be causing the slugginess below 4K? One last question. Does anyone have a copy of the MM3 tune I haer so mush about and can send it to Twggs26g@Yahoo.com.

Thanks again for all the help guys. I am learning alot.

I wouldn't use MM3 unless you are prepared to put some work into it, MM2 is much better for most situations. I'm sure cerberus willl be along soon as he has it (he made it). Plugs are a good place to start fo rought running. Can you use a multi meter? If so then look at the connections for the O2 sensor and put a meter accross them with the engine running at idle and you should see the voltage wafting between 0v and 5v as the engine idles. Or of course just open the sensor page of TuneBoy and look at the sensor voltages on their. It should be obvious if its wrong.

Alright next question. I am changing the plugs. All three looked good but hopefully this is it. Now on to the question. When I pulled off the airbox there are three hoses on the bottum. As seen while sitting on the bike, the far left one goes to the ECU, the middle one (larger) goes to the far lower left side of the engine crank case cover, the last line on the far left is a tube about 8 inches long that just hangs from the bottum of the airbox not connected to anything. My question is is it suppose to connect to anything or just hang? I can not see any missing line or connector for it.

Thanks,

probably goes tot he fuel pressure regulator on the side of the tank where the fuel lines connect.

I think the line on the far left side of the airbox is the drain line. Now on to the fuel system. What is the vent / roll over valve line connect to? Where does the fuel pressure regulator line connect to? Not the ones on the tank but the other side of the line. Does the vent / roll over line loop under the tank and connect back to the fuel pressure regulator line? I try and be extremely careful when disassembling so I know where it all goes.

Thanks,

Fuel pressure reg line should connect to airbox (often missing and deleted by Triumph on later models I believe). vent line and roll over line just hang down into lower fairing.

Thanks...

That makes sense as to how it was connected when I disassembled it.

So on the 04 model there might not have been a fuel pressure regulator line installed. The regulator is in the tank but no line. There is also no open spots on the airbox to hook the line up to.

its all back together now. I just did a test run on the paddock stand and the idle is solid, no hesitation either. This is of course in nutral with no load on the bike. We shall see when I take it out for a spin shortly. I did lok at the O2 voltage. It never got above 1V. It stayed between .118 and .850 at idle and with some throttle?

Thanks again.

If I am not mistaken (haven't played with it in a while) that is correct.

The narrow band sensor on my bike runs at between 0 and 1 volt.

I think that the wide band units run from 0 to 5 volts.

Just got back from riding. It runs GREAT!!! No hesitation, no surge in the idle. The new plugs seem to fix it.

Thanks everyone for the help. This is an A+ site.

The o2 sensor only ranges from 0-1v as its narrow band. wideband ranges 0-5v.

I turned this thread into a problem soulving one that was intened for TuneBoy....

Now I shall switch it back.

On the bottum of the TuneBoy sensor page are a few options.

Adaptive Stepper, Idle trim and long term trim. What do these do?
