..can anyone help? Vectra LS Estate, last two days juddering in low gears and pulling back slightly on acceleration. Ok at speed in higher gear. I thought it was just a bit of dirt in fuel and we put some redex in.
Today it's developed a knocking and the bloody engine management light has come on

Manual has no fault diagnosis to speak of and I am always convinced I will get ripped off at the garage although I know it will have to end up there.

Any ideas anyone?

You can read the diagnostic codes with a paper clip; Google will tell you how.

The codes themselves are here:

Logically speaking....fuel filter would be an issue at higher engine speeds I would've thought - as fuel flow/demand increases there would be an increased starvation effect

Sounds a lot like a misfire. Check the plugs etc.

My astra does this occasionally, I posted here a while ago and the concensus (Fret and Flash I think) that it was the mass air flow sensor or summat like that. I looked and couldn't find it so I just put up with it. It happens maybe once a week and all I have to do is stop, switch off and then start up again and it's fine.

Trophy.........Try disconnecting the air mass meter multiplug and see if the car improves. Failing that it could be a camshaft sensor or even poor spark plugs. There are many things it could be so keep posting after you have tried something.

Thanks guys, some of those suggestions have come up through my Google searches too. It's booked into the garage now anyhow - just hope the bill isn't too big .

Question is should I drive it? Was thinking not.

Going to call RAC tomorrow and tell them engine management light on and car is not running. When the nice man arrives and plugs his computer in we will know what it is and it will cost us nothing to find out. That's what we pay the premium for

Flappy we booked it into Archway at Findern but it's not til Wednesday. Still not sure who is good/not good in this area so your suggestion would still be most welcome
