After a week of worrying about the weather, the Brands Hatch trackday finally arrived.

I left in good time, but by the time I was halfway there the skies blackened, and it was pissing when I arrived. I called G, and could here Vince giggling in the back-ground. I knew they'd booked into the Hotel D'Amore together the previous night, and tried to block out visions of what may have transpired.

After seeing Fruity, I parked up in a paddock, only to find out it was number 13!!

G then arrived, walking stiffly - I remembered not to ask how the evening went...

Then Vince rang to say he had lost his keys - I put it down to nerves.....he was still pure and unbroken ( on the track ) - so a bit daunting....

At the briefing, Vince asked the pertinent questions - such as " Oi,mate...which way round are we going??"

We were then released on track - and mine and G's first session was mostly underwater.

Rest of the morning was showers and sunshine....with one blessed dry track session before lunch. After lunch, the sun shone and all was well with the world - dry all the way.

There were surprisingly few offs - one chap overtook me on Clearways only to bin it on the exit - giving me a grandstand view. There were a few other minor offs, and then towards the end a spectacular one seeing ( as far as we could tell ) a chap coming onto Brabham's Straight, clipping the grass, hitting the wall, and binning it with his bike somersaulting down the straight...coming to rest with mucho fumes - I thought it may catch light

He got away from the bike, and slumped onto the grass - but got up later, so hopefully just winded.

We finished the day unscathed....All in all a Grand Day Out

Apart from a bit of (quite acceptable) editorial licence, a fair account there, J-Zeus. Worthy of additional note was Vince's reenactment of numerous WW I and II battles via his nasal passage while I was trying to get some shuteye (this was despite drugging him heavily), and the mother of all journeys coming back from Brands. In short, it PISSED down. We're talking stair rods. All the way. Standing water, floods, zero visibility - the lot. Only just starting to dry out now - and I had me wets. Vince, of course, having the organisational capacity of a small rock-dwelling mollusc, didn't pack his, and thus spent the entire journey with his groin and both boots full of unseasonably cold water.

But we mustn't let such peccadillos smudge the greater picture, namely that Vince popped his track day cherry in great style, the Ape performed flawlessly (and only required the two tankers of fuel), and, of course, attracted large crowds of admirers everywhere it went.

Good to meet some new people, too. Good bunch the Lurndern mob - and a fair few quick riders amongst them, too.

But good god am I getting fed up of riding my motorcycle in the rain all the time!

Please can we have some sun now?

Vince forgetting his keys???

Never.

Next he'll be forgetting his ferry ticket, bike docs, gloves, helmet strap, riding on the wrong side of the road, running out of fuel (despite reminders) and even his helmet.

Did that last year, Lord (except the track we used was the French. Italian, Austrian and Swiss Alps), and bloody brilliant it was too.

Gents

Thank you both, J and G, for such kind reviews. As G said; fuck it rained. When I emptied my boots I wasn't surprised to discover several goldfish, some gravel and one of those little plastic treasure chests that open and shut that blow bubbles, in my right boot; and a pair of mating toads in my left.

Moist ? I was positively dripping...

G, with respect to bedroom antics, I suspect the drugs you cut must have affected your memory. I recall quite clearly from being aroused at 3.00am sounds from the Serengeti plains of 3000 wildebeest sweeping into view. Fuck, you need sinus surgery matey. No question

That apart twas a stonking day. I even managed to overtake Mrs Allsop, the track cleaning lady, whilst on her 3 wheeler. You know, the one with the wobbly offside rim.

Vince's Transponder:

Vince tied a line around the tip protruding - and the other end to the back of G's Ape.

As G and I were battling it out at Surtees, the line went taught and it just popped out.

G never even wobbled, but I hear Vince flinched

Lol... And there's J-Zeus being passed again at 6min 05 sec, and again at 8 min 16...

I remember that pass though. I'm thinking "Hmmm lots of bikes up ahead... And Oh fuck... There's one o'them thar corner things coming up - then one went past me on the outside, the other on the inside. Those fast boys on their track bikes made everyone else look like they were standing still.

Isn't Mark (the one being chased) Fruity's man?

Fuck - that was nothing. You should have seen the buggers overtaking us on the outside of Druids itself. I was impressed.

As you can see, apart from the guy he was chasing the cameraman was the fastest there. (The bastards put all the advanced riders in with the inters just to make us look slow. goddammit.)

Trust me, you need A LOT of experience to hammer into Druids and outbrake/overtake a bunch of mixed ability occasional trackdayers - any of whom could suddenly change their line or slam the anchors on hard.

Not a game I'm prepared to play. Not on my only bike, anyways....

No worries - dont rush, the banter can wait

long time since I had 'High Tea' .....

High Tea (also known as Meat Tea) is an early evening meal, typically eaten between 5 and 6 o'clock in the evening. It would be eaten as a substitute for both afternoon tea and the evening meal. The term comes from the meal being eaten at the ‘high’ (main) table, instead of the smaller lounge table. It is now largely replaced by a later evening meal.

It would usually consist of cold meats, eggs and/or fish, cakes and sandwiches. In a family, it tends to be less formal and is an informal snack (featuring sandwiches, biscuits, pastry, fruit and the like) or else it is the main evening meal.

On farms or other working class environments, high tea would be the traditional, substantial meal eaten by the workers immediately after nightfall, and would combine afternoon tea with the main evening meal. See also The UK Tea Council Definition.

In recent years, in the Bognor Regis area, High Tea has become a term for exquisite afternoon tea, though this is American usage and mainly unrecognised in Britain. However, this usage is disfavored by etiquette advisors doncha know

Yep - those 'official photographer' shots are crap . I've come across the same guy at Brands before - he knows sweet FA about bikes, shoots his load on the warm up laps, and angles his camera in a pointless effort to make it all look dramatic.

He's not a photographer - just a money-grabbing opportunist.

And where was the fucker when it was really hammering down?

Best pic that shows the conditions I've seen to date was from our Fruity:

There used to be a guy who did Cadwell, Donington, Rockingham etc and was a real pro - had the wagon, PCs for viewing, ability to burn disks on site (this was a few years back so not so common) and he produced good shots.

I will stick them in a 'set' once they're done.
