just standing in my shop doorway as 4 REALLY old bikes went past, one had RAF on its tank, just wondered if this was actually anything to do with the RAF or something completely different as I've never seen that before on a bike.

RAF had bikes mostly for convoy escort and other Force Police work.
Also used them for dipatch work.
Navy had bikes also - and no they didn't float.
