As I'm only getting 1,500 miles out of a rear on this Ape I started looking for a tyre place closer to me than Micheldever, and found: http://www.russtyres.co.uk/ Based on the outskirts of Portsmuff just off the Eastern Road (so easy to get to). Prices are comparable (pair of 2CTs fitted, £222), he's one of the good guys and a proper biker. Prides himself on looking after your rim... Thought I'd mention it (though Fret's bound to tell me he's been using him for years...)

Fuck me, so it's about 10 pence a mile to keep your bike in rear tyres Add in the front and I bet you're spending about the same on tyres as petrol. Impressive ...

It came fitted with some super soft Pirelli Dragon Supercorsa Evo self-melting chocolate jobs, Kev. Grippy as hell when hot, but you can watch them getting smaller as you ride. I used to get 3,000 out of the 2CT rears on the S3, so should be OK for 2,500 or so taking the V-twin factor into consideration. But if not, fuck it. Worth every penny...

I wouldn't know, ST. Such are the brutal forces involved I'd need a neck brace to look at the speedo...

Hmmm... Now I know you're joshing. Being an Aprilia, the fogs are fogged up in all but the warmest weather. The last time I saw the digital display was in the showroom...

Meant to say 'clocks' are fogged up... Electrics are fine, ST - just a dodgy seal on the cover that means you get a bit of fogging in cold weather. Being replaced under warranty when I can be arsed to get over to the dealers. Don't have much luck with clocks - had four (or was it five) replaced under warranty on my 1050. Bring back analogue, I say. I don't want a fucking lap timer, avg fuel consumption, avg speed, and the time in Moscow - I just want a speedo, rev counter and trip. Please....

I'm game to tell you all - but then Trip would have to kill you... (Tyre fitting to homosexual reference in 9. Not bad, not bad... Guess I shouldn't have mentioned the rim word...)

Damn! I did, didn't I? Anyway, I'm off to have my rim fondled by the lovely Russel, so if you see me walking funny you'll know all you need to. And guess what? It's not raining! Woo-hoo!

Did I mention I've been using Russell for years? He used to work at Collins/Roadwheel in Hilsea. A good egg all round, a proper bike tyre doctor who you can ask honest advice from. Always gave me a good price, plus it was on the way home from work.

So why didn't you spread the word then? I've been going to Micheldever, 500 miles out of my way for the last six years. Guys like Russ (one man bands) need all the publicity they can get. Hence this thread.

Cos I was using him at Roadwheel and haven't needed new tyres for more than 3 years. I didn't know he had gone out on his own. And one of our Drivers sons works at Micheldever, so I get good prices there. I just buy a new bike every 10000 miles when the tyres wear out.
