My wife and I are off to Europe for two weeks on the RS this summer and I was wondering if anyone had any tips for luggage options. Hard options seem limited in terms of rack availability and not sure soft panniers will fit all the kit we require. Any ideas would be gratefully received. Cheers, Stu.

Have a look at the Ventura system......the luggage sits to the rear of the bike and will not cause any comfort probs for the pillion......

I'll second that - used a Ventura rack/bag on my RS, combined with a tank bag. Big fan of Ventura system.

Cheers guys, I had a quick look at their stuff and it looks good. I assume that when you carry a pillion you simply turn the bag round so rather than the bag sitting on the seat, it sits on the flat part of the rack like a top box would. Was handling effected much by having such a large bag siiting behind th rear wheel? Once again thanks for the advice.

Triumph Sports panniers pack all your stuff in bin bags don't rely on the elastic ones they shread at payge speed cut mine off after the first trip. But the panniers and fixings are great did 1000's and 1000's of miles with mine solo and 2 up on 4 different bikes and the seat pad that holds the panniers is not uncomfortable to sit on for long periods. I only stopped using them because of the sprints hard luggage but the wife and I reckon we got more in the soft panniers unexpanded. Also didn't make you feel like the bike was 10 ft wide. I keeping them because they were so good and I need them for my next bike. You can also get panel protectors to stop then marking your tail section plastic.

Triumph soft panniers, with protector panels and the Triumph tankbag, on my RS. Less susceptible to damage, on and off the bike, would take them over the hard stuff, every time. Panniers carry the weight better than a tail pack, particularly if you're two-up.

Thanks all, any ideas what the litre capacity of the panniers is and do you have to have the panel protectors to use them? Do they have additional bungy points or just the two top buckles? The top box looks great on your RS Rob, have to keep an eye out for one of those but I expect they're like hens teeth! Cheers

The panel protectors fit to brackets which are left on the bike. The front bracket, attached behind the pillion footrest, provides an extra tie point for the panniers. "The top box looks great on your RS Rob" There's very few with such high standards. Tho I was not completely alone. Photo Album Image The rack and box sometimes turn up on e-bay, tho they're not cheap. It's the same unit as the ST. If you do find one, try to get the subframe strengthening kit that goes with it. I didn't and eventually the rear subframe gave way

Thanks very much all, that doesn't sound good Rob. Nearly bought one on Ebay recently without the bracket, glad I didn't!

In fairness, I probably had a bit more than Triumph's recommended max load in there. I was lucky, the replacement subframe I bought, on e-bay, had the strengthening kit already fitted. It's probably why the Triumph kit appears so expensive, there's more to it than you might imagine.
