Hello, got directed to this sub section by Boycie after posting up a question in the sports forum....

I'm intrested in racing a speed triple in open class 'formula' racing with my local club. This is a bit of fun, I currently race supermoto and formula 400, I just fancy giving guys on sorted R1's Gixxers etc a bit of a fright on a naked bike!!!

SO I'm looking for a bit of advice how to get the best set up (cheaply) from a speed triple.

Looking to go for an early 955i model to keep the whole thing reasonably cheap - any advice appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Well, with a speed triple you arne't going to frighten many gixxer or R1 riders (except maybe getting in their way as they try to pass you for the third time). You are going to need at least a late model bike, i would suggest getting a Daytona engine to stick in it, rear shock and at least sort out the front suspension with springs and maybe oil. get some double h pads in the front. then you'll have to learn to ride like a god.

You'll do well to get 108 bhp at the rear with an early speed trip.

108 ................. bummer to be fair, beat bigger faster bikes a few times over the years, its not all about the machine

Starting to sound expensive though, might buy some cheaper hoss power.

no its not all about the machine (my son regulary beats more powerful machines than his at F400 level) but 160 at the rear (gixxer thou) against 108 is somehwhat unfair when it comes to the straight bits...
