Speed Triple 955i (02-04)

10 Apr 2008 19:05
I fancy having a go in the Thundersport GB streetfighter class on my 955 speed triple. The ACU regs mention having to have an oil catch tank under the engine. Any tips on building or buying one? Any photos of one?
Thanks

Didn't JL used to race a S3 and produce a catch tank (basically a filled in lower fairing)? However easiest would be just to make the existing lower oil/water tight by infilling to give about a 20mm lip at the back and front and making good any holes around the 20mm height mark. Should pass scrutineering at that.

I think Skidmarx still make race bodywork for the older Daytonas. I raced one of mine with high bars and just the catch-tank fairing bottom held in place using some home-made brackets.

As well as the catch-tank, you will need to drill and lock-wire the sump plug and oil filler cap and you will need to find a suitable sized jubilee clip to fit around the oil filter and then lock-wire that too.

Also your coolant should not have any additives such as antifreeze .... they get very shirty if you crash and deposit coolant additives on the track, or even if you don't crash and just spring a coolant leak.
