Nice for a show car but reckon they'd look like shit after a few thousand miles.

yep, a few high speed pull-ups and they'll be just an opaque grey mess - neat idea though

Aside from scratching which you could overcome by coating them in a clear self healing vinyl, if I recall Polycarbonate is quite susceptical to heat. So and heavy brake use on any car that uses those brembo monoblocks will simply melt the wheels off the hub?

If it were not simply looks that counted, how would they weigh up against carbon or metal rims?
Im guessing that they would be the heaviest of all three, making them showroom only wheels?

The bike ones might not be too clever in a side wind.

Depends on the bike I guess.
The HD Fatboy has solid wheels, or at least the one I see on the roads round here does and it doesnt seem to get any undue buffeting. But then it does weigh about the same as my house

I remember the late JOhn Robinson once saying that solid wheels were no more susceptible to side winds than conventional ones, because the turbulence created by the spinning spokes stops side winds passing through anyway.

ever ridden a bike with solid wheels? anyone who has will tell ya that high winds coming from the side will push it around more than spoked wheels.

the other problem is manuverability when pushing the extra mass.
