Debatable? They used to be, but you can get "Quality" from various scources - Mastercraft,Craftsman,Halfords Professional??? (Surprisingly) - Blue Point (Snap on) etc..... But "Lifetime Guarantee???" - that's what you are paying for! And, yes - they do, as I've had a couple of things replaced when the chrome has flaked etc!

Quote: but you can get "Quality" from various scources - Mastercraft,Craftsman,Halford | . A note on Craftman, The screwdrivers are now junk. When I started repairing sewing machines a few years back. I bought a set of Craftsman screw drivers and proceeded to twist the tips off every one of them. OK lifetime guarentee, the replacements do the same thing. Nothing worse than a tool that fails because you typically ruin what you are working on. I have some Craftsman tools that I've had since the 60's and they are far better quality. But even from the days that Craftsman made good tools, I have broken a few Craftsman tools but have yet to see a broken Snap on.

We used to break "Snap-on" tools all the time. never had a single issue getting a replacement though. Same goes for MAC (As good as snap-on and a bit cheaper ) For the home, I tend to go the Draper / Stanley / Halfords route with a few decent makes from my earlier days. PS: You can't have enough "crappy" screwdrivers. What else an you use as a chisel / tyre lever / missile when needed?

No one makes a ratchet like Snap-On. IMHO. I like my knuckles and wish to keep them.

As an ex snap on dealer I have a fair tool kit with there stuff. Good gear, but the problem is price!!. And the mark up is huge by the time it comes from main distribution center to area office to dealer to you !!!. 10% to 30% each step.

too true Charlie ,what good is replacing junk with new junk!!!!, craftsman has gone downhill .their ratchets used to be the best, absolutly unbreakable, the new ones seem to be made with plastic ball bearings.

Halfords life time guarantee?
I bought some of the Halfords lifetime guarantee sockets last year to replace my car cylinder head, which used torque to yeald bolts ( had to rotate 180 deg after torque to 60lbs/ft). The socket broke whislt doing the first headbolt up, went back to Halford to exchange broken one for new and was told I had to have my receipt. Despite it having Halford Lifetime Guarantee written on the side of the socket, sales person refused to exchange, so if you buy from them remember to keep your receipt !

I just finished paying off my Snap-On toolbox last year, didn't think I would ever get out from under those payments. I traded in a top of the line Craftsman for it and still owed a little over $6000! The craftsman was built good but nowhere near as good as the Snap-on box. Same goe with their tools, you can feel the differance in quality between Snap-On and Craftsman. Pretty much every tool in my box now is either Snap-On or MAC with very few Proto and Stanely thrown in. Best place to find Snap-On at a good price is Ebay if your not in a hurry and can wait. I've gotten ratchets and such off there that looked brand new and had the lifetime warranty for a 1/4 the price the dealer wanted.

Hadleigh what type of engine is that? We had quit a few large engines in our plant. eveything from Waukesha's, Cat's, MEP's, White's, Cooper's, and Staurn and GE turbines. All of our Gen Sets were Cat's. I think the ones I hated the worse was the MEP's. We used to joke about that standing for Mutiple-Engine-Problems! Crap! I didn't notice this thread was so old!

Man what size gen is that thing turning???? Can't tell by the photo but I take it that the engine is turbo charged? One more question... Whats the hp on the clean machine? Most of our engines are so dirty you can't even see the valve covers, oil companies don't car if they are clean, just if they make money.

If memory serves me right those sets are 2meg @ 1500 rpm Turbos, yes,6 Not sure of the power either, but a full chat 12 set is around 3000bhp @ 1900,an 18 at about 5000. White one is only clean because it was just installed, and grey because they don't run much. And this week playing with one of these Photo Album Image fitted in a new build mega yacht in Germany
