A local dealer has a 99 Sprint ST with 39000 miles. Do these engines suffer from the receding valve malarky like the T595s? Anything else that afflicts these bikes in particular? Thanks

Should be good if it's regularly serviced. My '01 Sprint RS had 42k on the clock when I sold it. No reason to think it wouldn't do the same again.

[edited]:
The valves on the 99-01 Sprint ST's do need more attention than on the post 2002 ones. They should have been checked at 36000 miles (last major service). Book mileage for a '99 ST will be about 35-36k so it is not far off where it should be. Also check to make sure the chain adjuster cam has not seized up. It's about a 90 minute job to strip it all down, clean it up and grease it up and put it together again.

Thanks Bob. I've seen a few posts about 595 heads needing new seats at 20 odd thousand miles. The 99-01 is different then?

As said as long as it's got a full dealer service history it should go on for another 40,000 miles.

There was one on eBay recently with 111,500 miles on it. So, a few years left for me then!

100000 miles is just about run in for a litre engine. No reason as to why it won't do double that.
