So the front end on my T595 was getting really notchy and I decided to put a fresh pair of bearings in. Looking at some threads here on T595, I concocted some kind of tool to get the weird top nut out and got to work... The fucking thing would not budge at all! Not even a few mm! So I soak it in WD40 overnight. The next day, still no movement, so I said, screw the top nut, I'll get a new one! I grab a huge pair of plumber's pliers (the adjustable ones that look like a parrot's beak - sorry for going technical on you) and get to work. The bloody thing starts turning, but after about half a turn it gets stuck again! No matter how much torque I applied, it just wouldn't give. Of course, in the meantime, I also managed to notch the top yoke, something that will go away, but only after a lot of polishing. After this failed, I was really, really pissed off, so I get the angle grinder out to cut the head of the stupid bolt and lift the goddam top yoke off. Working away very carefully, I manage to do just that, without any further damage to the top yoke. So now I have the top yoke nut ground almost flush with the top yoke (there is about 1mm of material or even less in places), so I figure that with a nice whack the top yoke should come off. But did it bollocks! The thing just does not want to be taken apart!!! Apart from the junkyard car crusher, I have no idea what to do next!

When SANDY was putting on my new top yoke he came across the same problem. He took an angle grinder to it...I'm glad I wasn't there to see it!! Lets just say I ended up having a new bottom yoke too!! That's easy for SANDY as he has loads of bottom yokes in the shop. Good Luck!!

vas, its probobly too late now but if you take the weight off the forks(get the front wheel off the ground, but not with a paddock stand)it all comes off easier.....rubber mallet will help with the top yolk...

Yes, you will need to get the weight off the front of the bike. I use my engine hoist. This allows me to take the weight off the bearings with out lifting the tire off of the ground, because then the nut will bind in the other direction.

Well, the top yoke is now off, but it does not look very nice after the ordeal... Now I am trying to undo the nut that holds the bearings. Picture this: One 36mm socket with a breaker bar and a 5ft pipe around the breaker bar and the thing only just turns. The corrosion on the stem is unbelievable!

Hi J...mine did come with a baffle...it screws in through the threaded hole in the ally cone. It makes a bit of difference but not alot!! I run it with the baffle in as it gives a bit more low down grunt. I'm sure Peter will sell you one if you want it. It's running on the latest low level race Triumph tune. I had a high level tune loaded to run the MHP and ran the stubby with it for a while. Definately runs better with the low level tune. Enjoy!! Vas...exactly what mine was like. When SANDY described to me how hard it was to get off I'm so glad I never tried it!! Check E-Bay for a new yoke set, they are surprisingly cheap...carry on the good work!!

sorry to be a git ,but if you take the weight off the front forks just enough to lift the front tyre, but dont use a paddock stand, the top yolk will tap off with gentle application of a rubber mallet.......it will, i did it on thursday and it just did it..........hello......

Back with an update... I finally managed to get the yoke apart. I actually had to cut the stem off with the angle grinder, 'cause the goddam 36mm nut just wouldn't come off. Replaced the whole thing with a new yoke set, as per LOUDpipes' suggestion. Put the new bearings in there and the action is finally nice and smooth. Then I took the forks apart, refreshed the seals and the fork fluid and slipped a pair of Ohlins springs inside to firm it up a tad. After the front was done, I turned my attention to the rear... Dismantled the shock linkage, refreshed the seals and the bearings and installed a new rear shock made by an Italian company called TNK. As I haven't heard of anybody using this shock on a Triumph, I will give it a spin and tell you all about it. I still have to install the Gilles clipons, replace a faulty HID bulb and put the whole headlight unit and fairing back on the bike, but I am well and truely knackered after a whole day in the workshop...
