it's under the clutch cover.....

disconect your clutch cable at the clutch end.
drain oil.
un-do the 100000 bolts on the cover.
move the clutch actuating leaver towards the engine about 90 deg.
pop cover off.

turn the but nut (about 28mm) in a clockwise direction ONLY till you are there. with the cam sprocket arrows pointing EXCATLEY towards each other you are at TDC.

to adjust take out your cam chain tensioner and adjust cams accordingly. you'll need a 19mm open end spanner (i think) and when ypu have it right get a mate around to hold the chain on the cam sprockets, put tensioner back in. now when you turn over the motor bu hand this is when the chain will slip.

turn it over a few times and then check you have it right. the chain will want to go 1 tooth out so just make sure it's right. it'l still run but it'll feel like a GS500e not a sports bike.

now slap her all back together.

one tooth makes such a difference? atleast the pistons dont hit the valves I guess.

Did you learn that the hard way?

yep. i was going to sell it as it was gutless. but at least there was no piston V valve action. I was told this 1 tooth thing is a common mistake by us back yarders on these thrppples.
