Sprint ST (05->)

I have a 2007 (july07) sprint st i regulary clean the bike, have used it a few times over winter but i noticed yesterday when doing a more detailed clean that the footpegs have corrision over the metal, not rust but the the metal has white corrosion on the metal. my last bike was a 955 which i used all year round and this did not any corrosion at all. is this due to the poor build quality and a sign of things getting worse on the bike

On the older Sprint ST the heel guards / footrest hangers bubbled quite badly, but I just got them blasted / powdercoated at cost of about £20 and good as new.

Get some Scottoil FS 365 it will keep the corrosion away.
But its not good on an 07 bike my 06 is ok, but I spray it with 365 when I've washed it and its still wet.

Exactly the same happened on mine, but Jack Lilley's got them replaced under warranty.

Washed it last weekend though, and noticed one of the fork legs is pitted just under the top yoke, with nasty rusty stains dribbling out of it.

Like you say, it doesn't bode well...

My RS fork leg is the same just under top yoke......and I been using ACF 50 for ages now........

Triumph quality once again rears it's ugly head.....

We must really LOVE these triples to put up with this shit.......I don't think the quality of my '81 Guzzi Le Mans was MUCH worse than this!!!!!!!

The finish on my 10 year old Thunderbird Sport is still better than my 2 year old Sprint.
There are more signs of corrision on the 2 year old bike than the 10 year old one.
Nothing bad but silly things fastenings, bolts etc.
As I said if you treat it with FS 365 it keeps in in check but you shouldn't have to.
Triumph quality control and product improvements march foward not.
Over to you Triumph.

In fairness can't say I've found the same.

My ST is now 15 months old, and despite not being washed as regularly as I would normally like, still comes up well, with no obvious deterioration.

Likewise, my '01 Sprint was as good as anything else I've seen, Hondas & Beemers included. And that at 6 year old.

My '99ST didn't really show its age at all, apart from the SSSA.
My 1050 is an '06my that sat in a crate for a year before I bought it. I wondered if it was stored somewhere damp / humid, or perhaps on a dockside with lots of sea air..?

Tip #101
After wshing the bike and spraying FS365 liberally all over - try and avoid the exhaust can and pipes - it gives an interesting effect when you are stopped at the first set of traffic lights !

3 winters, 30,000mls. No problems. The finish on this one is way better than my previous 99 ST. My mate has one, never cleans it (it's a dealer job when they service it...) and he uses his in all weathers. It stands up to his abuse better than his old VFR, his suzuki (appalling) and his Beemer GS's ( he has 3 bikes that he uses a lot..). Apart from a wiring problem on the alarm early on, my ST has been 100% reliable, something else I couldn't say about my Mk2 ST.
