can do, take the fuel tank off. Remove the front tank cowling via the 3mm allen screws, remove the rear seat or cowling and riders seat, remove the bolt holding rear of tank, but before you lift disconnect 7 items from tank ie. on fuel pump plate 2 fuel conns carefully, and 1 elect fuel pump conn and 1 rubber pump reg vac hose. On other side remove 2 rubber vac hoses from filler overflow attached to tank. Then lift rear of tank enough to get 7th item a elect conn down under tank sump from fuel level sense. Walla, filter is under about 6 screws on top of dat dere airbeuax. Now put it back with your eyes closed, ha. While there study how to get the airbox off for future TB sync and valve shim check or adjustment.

Don't forget to disconnet the battery before you disconnect any of the wiring otherwise when you put it all back together again you'll find yourself with the engine management light on, which might be worrying if you aren't aware of this fact.

Quote: While there study how to get the airbox off for future TB sync and valve shim check or adjustment. | Airbox was a doddle on my '99 Daytona. Remove the tank as described above, undo two torx screws holding the coolant filler and pipe union in place, move it out of the way. Two more torx bolts at the back of the air box, securing it to the fuel injector rail. Hose on both sides to be disconnected, and the electrical connector - one big one toward the rear of the box, one further forward(can only be accessed with the side fairings off or the box moved higher up). Remove airbox intake trumpets(awkward little gits). After that, just give her a tap from side to side and pull her up. Throttle linkage is easy to get at. Box doesn't have to be removed to get at air filter, it's held in place by 4 torx bolts and a rectangular section of plastic. I think mine is coming back off again tomorrow, because of my bloody misfire... If the weather holds out, then I'll try and think to take some photographs and make a PDF guide. It's an easy job, but understandably daunting the first time you do it. --Rich

"Andy: Don't forget to disconnet the battery before you disconnect any of the wiring otherwise... " Note that this will set off your alarm if ya've got one fitted! The engine management light will re-set after 3 heat-cycles( short runs) anyway. F
