Nasty rattling noise made me delve into clutch housing .Removed clutch basket half expecting to see those little springs all chewed up as I had metal swarf in the oil. Wasn't that though. when I removed the main drive gear off its spline the alternator gear and bolt almost came off with it. some advise please. Ta very much.

Noted that crank sensor magnet very good at collecting swarf

Hope you didn’t pull that bolt out!!! You’re in Shit Street if you did!!! Take the alternator off and push a screw driver through as you remove the bolt, you may find that the thread is damaged on the bolt after all that dancing about….

Good job finding that out now because it would have knackered the bearing eventually.

Hmm did'nt pull bolt out I left it in place just in case and have been researching today..got hold of a haynes manual and it shows this bolt running through a splined shaft (starter clutch alternator drive shaft) the other end comes out behind alternator
rubber dampers with a nut on it .So I think if thats all thats sheared I can remove this bolt and get a new one.????.Probably need to replace alternator drive gear as the teeth although intack have had a rough time. Hopefully the chewed up metal is the washer that doe'nt seem to be present on end of bolt in clutch housing. Any other damage to look out for ??. Any thoughts welcome and considered. Cheers.

If you have got to it in time the bearing should be ok, just replace the bolt and a new nut and you should be fine.
No more bag of spanners, I've done a few of these now and they are still going strong.

I would flush the motor out with a quick oil change just to help get rid of the metal shavings off the end of the bolt.
