new to forum. seems to be a lot of knowledge here and i hope to tap into it. tuneboy seems to be the way to go. can i use someonelses cable and just purchase software? dealer near me wants $1200us to do tuneboy on my bike. that includes tool(?) software, labour. i looked online (http://www.newspeed3.com/html/TuneBoy.html) and found a starter kit for $409us, says it has everything i need to for custom maps and diagnostics. when i looked directly at tuneboy's site they want $1074aud.(not sure what that costs in us dollars)

dealer says i load map to the tool, plug in tool, download to bike.
what i gather from everthing i've read here, i plug laptop via tuneboy cable right into bike and load up maps.

oh what to do? some one help please.

dealer sounds confused to me.

[edited]:

I've just bought one, can highly recommend it .

There actually two versions, the full one allows you to download/edit maps, diagnose errors and adjust/reset various settings ect.

The other cheaper versions does not allow you to upload maps or edit them.

Both come with all the the software and usb cable included.

All the information is posted on the TuneBoy site.

As for making your own maps, well thats beyond me, I can alter a few basic setting, but thats it, any other work really requires knowledge of Fuel Injection systems and a Dyno

Custom maps can be downloaded from t595.net but you'll need a Premier account to access them.

Don't buy form your dealer he's obviously trying to scam you, buy direct from TuneBoy

Paid $489 for mine including delivery and all UK taxes

that's $700 just to do the tune.

Tuneboy doesn't need anything adding to the bike. It connects your PC and the bike and updates the ECU directly

forgot to say thanks to REC and BLIZZARD. thank you.

i don't think the dealer is trying to rip me off. friends with all the guys there. i think they're just uneducated and they did recommend i shop around. seems the bloke that sets up their parts and purchase software split up the kit. billing their customers seperatly for the cable; software; tunekey. he's no longer there so the new guy is going to rectify it, but texas was still cheaper as they sell them all the time and my guys have never sold a single one. looks like i might get mine and become the resident guru
