hi looking for some help please i have a 05 plate 955i with piss poor power. from day one i have always felt that my old thundercat was a quicker bike but i have never had the chance to try the 955 up against another bike in earnest till last week. one of my mates has just got a stock GSXR 750 on a 97 plate and it smoked my bike of the mark and top speed. my daytona has a under seat exhaust fitted but its not one from a established make . it was hand made by a company that makes one offs for cars my thoughts are that the exhaust is where i am loosing power but this being my first triumph and having no previous experience with the daytona i cannot be sure that my bike is under power or that the 955 was never a mach for the GSXR 750 it also has a bad tendency to tank slap around 150 although the 750 was long gone by the time i got to that speed any thoughts greatly received.

Hi John, can you get access to better exhaust for a quick change over & try out? -Check tyre pressures & tyre condition, try 41psi rear, 36psi front, -Check spring pre-load on the forks, wind them off to lower front ride height if required -Check fork bushings -Check steering head for play & free feeling steering lock-to-lock. Overtightened steering head can cause this too. -Check chain alignment -Check swingarm -Check that you're not putting to much weight on your bars -Have suspension set up to your weight John. If all components are in good condition, this alone will transform the handling. Your Daytona should get smoothly to approx. 260kph, bit of a push should see 270 on the clock

I'd lay odds on the exhaust.

thanks kerry dont have one to try other than the origenal but i think i would need to re-map the E C U i think the exhaust is the reson for the poor handlen the bike did not handel well when i first got it solely down to the bridgesones but in my atempts to get the best out of the suspension i found that the exhaust was melting the hugger forceing me to increase the rear preeload. i have now backed all the settings back and set the preeload for my weight . and changed the front tyre to a metzeler rennsport. not tried it at speed yet but it dose seem to be more stabel. quick question what would be the best exhaust to replace the one on my bike

During the time I was having an exhaust made, I fitted a set of “just to fit the noo headers ” fab, up and fitted , they looked not unlike stock but they made the motor run like a total bag of s**T… so my money to would be on the exust system too..

Hell, exhaust effecting the tune AND the handling! won't see that very often, lol. Glad you're getting it sorted:) Really, and some will disagree, I just love Triumph's performance can's and TuneBoy combination. Good sound, excellent power! Second choice, Micron's. Third choice a pipe made here in NZ, Harris. Though I think they're now called 'Zorts". A lot of guys go Scorpion, though I'm less keen. Bit like oil really, everyone has a preference!

my comments were related to the engine lack of power only of course. Too many variables to start diagnosing tank slappers at 150mph.....

progress so far tried the standard exhaust at the weekend but it was no good the bike required two weeks notice in writing if you wanted to accelerate but rather than put the under seat exhausts back on i fitted just one of the two silencers to the bike . its now quieter and seems to have a little more power in the mid range . cant say if this has sorted it out yet but the blue flames are cracking . tried to post a video but my phone takes the wrong format for this site .

Sounds lean John? would explain lack of power, and the blue flames from the pipe. Are the blue flames during acceleration? Pity we can't see & hear it via a vid. A look at wideband A/F readings and a dyno run would go a long way to start pin pointing your problem John. May be simply that the wrong map is currently loaded for your exhaust. Is there a dyno guy close by that is TuneBoy equipped?

[edited]:
Get your TPS tested and/or adjusted. Have the dealer or Tuneboy friend zero the throttle afterwards. Did wonders for my 955i's throttle response.
