By next weekend I will have amassed a tidy collection of boxes, Autocom unit, Garmin Sat Nav and the myriad of wires.

Its with some trepidation that I have to cut one of the live wires on the bike for the autocom, what is the best method for rejoining what will then be 3 wires, bearing in mind that todays solder is useless.

Its years since I done any wiring mods..so a bit aprehensive

Scotchlok?
original wire remains intact... scotchlok just cuts through insulation ... your extra wire is poked into the other chanel on the scotchlok - it cuts the insulation on this too.

they are the sort of thing used when towbar electrics are added to a car ... to cut into all of the tail/brake/indicator lamp wiring

cut it into something that isn't vital if you have a choice ... do it in a place that isn't exposed to weather too

If you don't have one already, I would put an inline fuse in first and connect everything to that ... with a low Amp fuse

A decent ignition on only live can be found on the live side of the rear brake light switch.
Wire in a cigar/accessory plug through the aformentioned fuse, with the load side going to earth.

I wouldn't use a Scotchlock if you paid me.................

All to easy to bugger it up, slice a wee bit too far, there goes the strength of the original wires..too loose and not enough grip on the original wire.

Cut> Twist>Solder or use a double piggyback connector with the above method...............

Maybe shrink wrap the connexion if you want it weatherproof.........................

Chears guys, a couple of options there, although according to Autocom scotch locks are a no-no, and apparently the automotive industry discourage their use.

now to find the right wire to cut

Having purchased a Caberg V2 a couple of years back I am extremely pleased with it. Comfy for hours, good fit. Not the quietest, or lightest, but the integral visor is worth it's weight in gold. I'd rather have that than a trendy Arai.
