I probably would class myself as an average rider, ex-fast commutor (now enjoying the comfort of company vehicle), 10 years of resonable club level MX, and recent convert to a 955i, following a string of brit bikes,Honda's, Kwaks, Bandits, GSX1400 etc.
I would like to get more out of the Daytona, and have considered race schools verses advanced type training.
A workmate did the Ron Haslam school, really rated it, what's the concensous?

There was a thread in the Arms recently where the relative merits of the RH school and the California Superbike School were discussed at length. The consensus amongst those who posted was that the CSS was the better option of the two for improving your road riding.

Phew!! ..............bit of an epic that, but took it all in, I suppose I'm in there too somewhere, I can see my own issues with the various postings, as stated, I've commuted on relativly traffic free fast roads in Devon, through to twisty shit and debris covered roads in rural Shropshire, I understand all the hazards thown at us bikers, and I consider myself a very defensive rider, therefore, I've come to the conclusion that although I might have a go at a trackday or two, the biggest benifit to me would be to take my road riding up a notch or three, so I'm opting to start the ball rolling and get some of the harsh truth thrown at me by doing the local Bikesafe course, in the west mids, never thought I'd be going down this route, must be an age thing!
thanks for the help though.

I think the only comment I'd make about doing a trackday/track school is to go somewhere where they actually analyze your riding style and suggest how you could improve it. It might be loads of fun blatting round a track discovering where the limits of your bike are, but if no-one gives you any sort of critique you could end up with the same bad habits, just at a faster speed ...........!!

By the sounds of it the CSS seems to be the one, and a couple of the posters on that thread know people there to make sure you'd get "looked after".

Am doing the RH school today (CBR600's), figured it would be both fun and informative.

One point to consider is the weather, I had to book a few months back to make sure I got on......looks like rain today .

Enjoy it because its raining..I well remember going round Gerards at Mallory park in the very wet on a race school bike at ~90mph and you couldn't wipe the grin off my face for hours...I was a bit younger then.

Cheers X-man, I did enjoy it. Started raining halfway through the 2nd of 3 sessions, but still a good learning experience.

Knowing what line to take down Craner Curves seemed the hardest bit, though folllowing an instructer made it easier.

Out of 22 of us (20 blokes, 2 ladies), only one came off (second session), at the old hairpin. I think he was ok.

I was surprised how much mid range the cbr600 has, guess the 675 is even better.

p.s. Athlete Derek Redmond was there, but in a different group.....on fireblades. He was sporting a set of leathers with:

"The Runner"
"400"

written on the back!

Rob A,
I would like to recomend the IAM, it helps a good deal with road riding and if you get the right guys helping you will make a real difference. For the last two years the IAM have also organised trackdays at Cadwell. I did one this year and one last year. They are about £110 for half a day which is a lot of tracktime for your money. So join the IAM and watch out for the dates of their track days.
Ells.
P.S I enjoyed the track days so much doing two CSS days this year.

Glad to hear you are ok Simon, conditions were a tad dodgy for sure. My Instructor (Simon Raynor) seemed a good bloke too.
