make sure the bike is on level ground - if it is on the centre stand, you get a low reading, so you fill it up then you realise it is overfilled . . doh !!!

Chris, The '02> engines use a dipstick. It is a bit odd, but if checking the oil level on a paddock stand it reads lower than when checking from vertical on the sidestand.

PS Correct way to check oil is to:
-clean dipstick
-gently go to vertical, then back to sidestand
-check dipstick, full is bottom of the flutes
-on the paddock stand oil level is just to the first mark (covering the crosshatch)

the early t595's had a viewer on the belly pan, ive found on mine a torch helps no need to drop the pan though
